Walked in and had an amazing experience. Staff, esp Chania were very friendly and helpful. My son walked in with a botched haircut and was ALL smiles before he even got out of the chair. He isn’t embarrassed of his hair anymore because he is stylin’!!!

Had a nice haircut after years of cutting my hair at home. Was a good experience. Will probably not go back to cutting my hair at home!
I am writing to formally express my disappointment regarding the service I received at the Owings Mills Hair Cuttery location on June 9, 2026.
Earlier that morning, I called and scheduled an 11:00 AM appointment because I had just taken down my sew-in with a frontal and needed a quick wash before a last-minute meeting scheduled for 1:00 PM. After checking nearby salons, Hair Cuttery was the first establishment with availability.
Before arriving, my hair had already been pre-combed and detangled. I came in wearing a bucket hat and informed the stylist that my hair was dirty because I had my sew-in installed for several weeks. Initially, I believed it had been around 3.5 weeks, but after checking the exact date during the appointment, I confirmed the install was done on May 1st, making it approximately 5 weeks old, not several months as repeatedly implied.
During the final rinse cycle, the stylist informed me that my hair had become “matted” and began questioning whether I was being truthful about how long my style had been in. She stated that hair usually becomes matted only after being neglected for multiple months and repeatedly questioned both the duration and style I previously had installed. I explained multiple times that I had a sew-in with a frontal, which she herself acknowledged while removing the glue during the wash.
At that point, I became increasingly uncomfortable and felt judged rather than serviced professionally. My hair was dry from having been in a protective style for weeks, which is completely normal. However, I felt the stylist continued insinuating that I had neglected my hair or was being dishonest about its condition.
It eventually required two stylists to detangle my hair, despite the fact that I did not arrive with matted hair. I remained patient and respectful throughout the process.
After blow drying my hair, I clearly communicated that I did not want my ends trimmed because I planned to braid my hair the following Friday for upcoming international travel. The stylist then showed me a picture of my ends and again emphasized that my hair was “very dry,” despite me already explaining the recent sew-in removal.
When I saw the final blow-dried result, I expressed that it was not how I envisioned my hair and requested a silk press instead. The stylist informed me it would cost over $90 additional, and I agreed because I simply wanted my hair to look presentable after the experience. However, I did not receive a proper silk press. Instead, I was given loose curls, and I observed another stylist gesturing to her throughout the process, which further contributed to my discomfort and embarrassment.
The most upsetting part of this experience was not the condition of my hair, it was how I was treated. I felt dismissed, judged, and treated as though I was lying. No customer should feel interrogated or shamed while receiving a basic wash service.
Despite my dissatisfaction, I still paid over $80 for the service and tipped more than $60. The tip was not given because I was pleased with the experience, but because I hoped the stylist would reflect on how uncomfortable and disrespected I felt throughout the appointment.
Unfortunately, after this experience, I will not be returning to the Owings Mills Hair Cuttery location. Additionally, I will no longer feel comfortable referring or bringing my individuals from my establishment to the Glen Burnie location monthly, as this experience has negatively impacted my trust in the brand overall.
I hope this complaint is taken seriously and addressed appropriately so that future customers do not experience similar treatment.

I brought my client here to get a haircut. Initially, I was told that the cut was $32. Once seated, right before the cut starts, a lady comes out and says the price went up to $42. I asked her if she would give him the benefit of the doubt. With a stone cold face and voice--without any empathy--she said no. This despite the client, which has a disability, clearly showing that he was upset. Poor customer service. This is it for me. I will never bring any of my company's clients here again.
I must also add that the staff are not very friendly. Not one smile. To top it all off, I schedule the appointment for 10:45 AM and arrived 15 minutes early. Despite the place having no other clients, the barber came out at almost exactly 10:45 AM. Throughout the whole session, the barber was using her smart watch.
Yall may work with heat damaged or chemically treated and patterns that are fine & loose curls but you do not work with 4c natural thick coarse hair.
I called before I went and inquired , they said they do . The first time I arrived was around 1220 they didnt have room for a walkin so they scheduled me for 225. I returned at 227 and the stylist wasn't ready and they did not indicate who would be doing my hair. 2 walkins and a 245 appointment arrived after me and were immediately seen. 254 The stylist came and got me and asked was I just getting a shampoo and blow dry. Looking at her hair texture I could tell she has 3a-c hair and inquired if she was sure she was familiar with 4c hair. She looked at my hair and said yes I got you what do you need cornrows, two strands or flat twists? I said no I want the shampoo and clarifying treatment , the bonding treatment and moisture treatment and a blow dry. She brought me back to the shampoo bowl with out a shampoo comb , proceeded to wash my hair without a system/order and tangled up my hair , nor did she really scrub my scalp all around i came in not itchy and by the time she finished washing i was itchy. She put a conditioner then had me sit under a dryer for 10 minutes then came and got me. She parted my hair into 4 big sections without combing through all before sectioning off. Also 4 sections is too big for thick hair anyways. She inquired with me again what did I want and I said I wanted the blow out but not the flat iron (which was asked of me when I booked the appointment and stated the treatments I wanted). She then used a wide tooth shower comb to comb through my bottom left section, sprayed a heat protectant then immediately when in with a round bristle brush to blow dry that section.
I realized what was happening and tried to give it time but as she was moving up the hair was not combed through and she was still using the round bristle brush for the blowdry and hadn't properly combed through the sections nor did she make them smaller. As she was tugging on my hair and essentially the service was rough unnecessarily, I pulled away and asked for someone else to finish my hair. She asked why I said because you didnt section and comb through my hair properly and you're using a bristle brush my hair is too thick and coarse for that. She then said she thought I wanted my hair straight and could use a paddle brush instead. I reiterated is there someone else to do my hair, she said she could get the paddle brush and went to talk to the manager or lead in the back. She came back and asked what I wanted to do I then stated I just want to pay and leave. In that moment I dropped my phone and she picked it up and I said thank you.
We got to the counter she left the shampoo but took off the blow dry I told her leave it there. While I did think that the amount should have been removed I requested for it to stay so they couldn't use rhetoric of someone just not wanting to pay.
While the stylist herself was respectful here are the issues:
-Waited about 30 minutes for my appointment while others were immediately seen
-communication between scheduling and the stylist dropped as the additional treatments that I requested for a reason were not included
-upon getting in my, car on top of my scalp being itchy from the wash, I could then see build up all through indicating an improper wash
-big sections
-incorrect use of tools for my hair texture
-non-use of specific tools for my hair texture
-working against my hair texture , everyone who is versed with natural hair knows you comb though as you go using the wide tooth shower comb during the wash under the water, a paddle or plastic bristle with no balls on tips brush for combing through sections before clipping and for blow drying
-wasted my time and money
-hair was not moisturized/ soft and feels like straw after whatever she was doing
She operated in my hair for loose , fine, chemically treated or heat damaged hair and everyone blew off when I stated I requested the treatments.
