PRF (platelet-rich fibrin) is an advanced form of PRP (platelet rich plasma) that is used to treat hair loss. It has been used for decades in dentistry and orthopedics. Human blood contains red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, and plasma. When blood is centrifuged (or spun in a special way), it will produce PRF. PRF contains platelets, white blood cells, fibrin and stem cells. Platelets in our blood contain proteins, or growth factors, that increase collagen production, regenerate tissue, tighten skin, rejuvenate texture of the skin, and improve hair regrowth. White blood cells aid in tissue regeneration, and fibrin acts as a scaffolding on which the growth factors attach to allow a longer release of their growth factors. Stem cells are undifferentiated cells that can turn into specialized cells or become more stem cells. They act as a repair system for the body to replenish adult tissues. WHY IS PRF BETTER THAN PRP FOR TREATING HAIR LOSS? PRF is the next generation of PRP. It is 100% natural and has no additives, unlike with PRP. Platelet-rich fibrin also contains greater concentrations of growth factors, as well as stem cells, while PRP does not have stem cells. This higher concentration of growth factors and stem cells will promote more hair regrowth and better improvement in the skin than PRP. The fibrin in PRF acts as a scaffolding to keep the growth factors and stem cells in the area they are injected into (which needs them the most) and not allow them to diffuse away where they are not needed. This allows for the release of more growth factors and for a longer period of time. PRP does not have fibrin, and it does not contain stem cells or white blood cells, which both contribute to tissue regeneration. HOW IS PLATELET-RICH FIBRIN HAIR TREATMENT PERFORMED? Depending on the size of the area being treated, 2-4 vials of blood are drawn from your arm. It is then centrifuged in special tubes in a unique way to activate the fibrin and concentrate more growth factors, white blood cells, and stem cells while separating it from the other blood components which are not needed. The PRF is then withdrawn from the vials and injected into the area of hair loss or the area of the face requiring rejuvenation. HOW MANY HAIR LOSS TREATMENTS ARE NEEDED? Results can vary from person to person. For hair loss treatments, usually, 4 monthly consecutive treatments are needed, which is then followed by quarterly treatments to maintain the results. After a year, the treatment frequency can be reduced, based on the specific requirements of the patient.

Are you are bothered by stubborn brown spots, sun damage, or fine lines and wrinkles? If so, Sciton® BBL Forever Young™ photo rejuvenation treatments could be the ideal solution for you. WHAT IS BBL FOREVER YOUNG™? Broad Band Light (BBL) therapy, which is similar to Intense Pulse Light therapy (IPL), uses cutting-edge technology to produce younger looking skin that is firmer, and more even in tone and texture. WHAT MAKES BBL FOREVER YOUNG™ TREATMENTS THE BEST OPTION? Studies show that having 2-4 Sciton® BBL Forever Young™ treatments per year, every year, will not only remove visible signs of aging but will also slow down the aging process. This unique revolutionary treatment not only corrects photoaged skin but also benefits younger patients who simply want to maintain healthy skin. Sciton® Forever Young BBL™ is the only device that has been shown to change the expression of genes associated with aging, longevity, and increased lifespan. Skin issues like acne, redness, and hyperpigmentation start below the skin’s surface, which is why topical products alone are often ineffective. Reaching the source of the problem requires an advanced treatment like Forever Young BBL™. With regular treatments, patients’ skin looks clear, smooth, and much younger. WHAT SKIN CONCERNS DOES BBL LIGHT THERAPY TREAT? BBL Forever Young™ is a highly versatile treatment that can be used safely to treat the face, neck, chest, and hands and is an appropriate solution for the following skin concerns: Hyperpigmentation Sun Damage Rosacea Broken Capillaries Age/brown spots Freckles Red or Ruddy Skin Enlarged Pores Lines Uneven texture WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT DURING BBL FOREVER YOUNG™ TREATMENT? This is a gentle, non-invasive and safe treatment – no anesthesia is needed. You will be provided with eyewear for protection during the procedure. Treatments are always performed by Dr. Trent. The BBL handpiece will be placed against your skin and will deliver precise pulses of light energy to the treatment areas. HOW LONG DOES BBL FOREVER YOUNG™ TREATMENT TAKE? The laser treatment usually takes 20 minutes depending on the size of the area treated. IS THERE ANY PAIN ASSOCIATED WITH BBL FOREVER YOUNG™ TREATMENT? Treatment can produce a light stinging sensation that is usually well-tolerated by patients. IS THERE ANY DOWNTIME AFTER BBL LIGHT THERAPY? There is no downtime following a BBL Forever Young™ Treatment. Your skin may look and feel as though you have a mild sunburn for a few days following the procedure. RECOVERY FROM BBL FOREVER YOUNG™ LIGHT THERAPY TREATMENT You will need to avoid sun exposure and wear sunscreen for a couple weeks after treatment in order to protect your skin as it heals. The skin may appear flushed for a few days after BBL treatment and certain dark spots may become darker. The dark spots will slowly fall off within 10 to 14 days. After a few weeks, your skin will look brighter, clearer, and more youthful. WHAT ARE THE POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS OF BBL FOREVER YOUNG™ TREATMENT? The most common side effect is redness in the treated area that usually disappears within a few hours. Mild to moderate swelling can develop within the first few days following treatment. Other potential side effects include bruising, blistering, scabbing, and changes in the skin’s pigmentation. HOW MANY BBL FOREVER YOUNG™ TREATMENTS WILL I NEED Typically 3 to 5 treatments, at 2-4 week intervals, will produce the desired results. More treatments may be needed depending on the severity of your condition. It is recommended that you receive 1-2 treatments per year to maintain your good results. Scientific studies have proven that 1-2 treatments per year will slow down the aging process.

WHAT IS BOTOX®? BOTOX® is made primarily of the botulinum toxin type A, the same bacteria that are responsible for botulism. This sounds scary, but it’s not. That’s because back in the 1950s scientists discovered that when a miniscule amount of the botulinum toxin was injected into a muscle, it made that muscle temporarily stop contracting. BOTOX® was born from that research. BOTOX® received its first FDA approval for treatment of involuntary eyelid spasms. Since then other uses, such as treatment of migraine headaches and TMJ disorder, have expanded its effectiveness. But BOTOX® became a worldwide phenomenon in 2002 when the FDA approved it for treating wrinkles on the upper third of the face: crow’s feet, the 11s between the brows, and forehead lines. Since then, BOTOX® injections have been the world’s most popular cosmetic procedure every year. BOTOX® has been approved for cosmetic use in 78 countries. Dr. Trent has over 15 years of experience with this neuromodulator and you’ll be happy with your results. WHAT PROBLEMS CAN BOTOX FIX? “Worry Lines” on forehead “Angry 11’s”(frown lines between the eyebrows) “Crow’s Feet”(laugh Lines around the eyes) “Marionette Lines”(lines extending down from the corners of mouth) “Smokers Lines”(lines around the mouth) Lessen the appearance of Neck Bands Brow Lift “Bunny Lines”(lines on sides of nose) Dimpled Chin Smile lift IS BOTOX SAFE? BOTOX® is one of the most extensively studied medical aesthetic treatments. BOTOX® has been the most popular cosmetic procedure every year since its introduction, and it has been injected millions of times across the world. It has proven to be a very safe and effective procedure. Beyond its wrinkle-erasing prowess, BOTOX® continues to also find ever-widening uses, such as treating migraine headaches, urinary incontinence, temporomandibular joint disorder, and even excessive underarm sweating. The main side effects after a BOTOX® session are slight redness, soreness, and bruising at the injection locations. This passes usually in a day or so. It’s important after your BOTOX® session that you do not rub the injection sites for the first 24 hours. This can make the BOTOX® migrate to an adjacent muscle creating unwanted issues such as a drooping eyelid. BOTOX® TREATMENT BOTOX® Cosmetic works beneath the skin’s surface and targets the underlying muscle activity that causes frown lines and crow’s feet. The product is injected directly into the muscles needing to be treated. The result is a reduction in the appearance of those lines. A treatment session typically takes about 5-10 minutes with no downtime. Results do not appear instantly, in some cases patients begin to see results within 48 hours but most patients begin to notice results 5-7 days after treatment with a full expression of treatment at 2 weeks. HOW LONG WILL MY RESULTS LAST WITH BOTOX? BOTOX® relaxes the muscles that form wrinkles for about four months. At that point, the body begins to absorb the now-inert botulinum toxin and the injected muscles begin to contract again, forming wrinkles on the surface skin above. To maintain your results, another BOTOX® session with the Dr. Trent is in order. For some patients, repeated BOTOX® sessions over time seem to make the injected muscles relax more easily and for a longer period of time. WHAT IS THE RECOVERY FROM BOTOX? There is no recovery time after your BOTOX® session. You may have some redness and slight swelling at the injection locations, but that passes in a day or so. Some people can have a slight headache for a few hours. Otherwise, BOTOX® was the original “lunchtime procedure,” meaning you can go right back to work or your other normal activities immediately after your session. While this isn’t “recovery,” as mentioned above it’s important to not rub your injection sites for 24 hours after your session. This prevents the BOTOX® from migrating to an unwanted location. WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR A BOTOX SESSION? BOTOX® works in a completely different fashion than dermal fillers such as Juvederm. When injected into a muscle, BOTOX® blocks the nerve messages sent from the muscle to the brain. The brain never receives the message to contract the muscle, so it stays at rest. Certain expressions, such as frowning, squinting, or showing surprise, engage numerous muscles on the forehead. Over time, as we make these expressions thousands and thousands of times, a wrinkle forms on the skin above the muscle. These are known as “dynamic wrinkles.” These mainly occur on the upper third of the face as crow’s feet, the 11s between the brows, and forehead lines. If these are the wrinkles you are seeking to erase, BOTOX® with Dr. Trent is the perfect answer.

When it comes to rejuvenating the skin without going under the knife, fillers offer a minimally invasive alternative to plastic surgery. Face fillers allow us to plump, enhance, soften, and improve facial and hand concerns. All injections are performed by top Dermatologist Dr. Jennifer Trent at our Sarasota office. WHAT ARE FACE FILLERS? Face fillers, also referred to as dermal fillers, include Juvederm®, Restylane®, Radiesse®, and Sculptra®. When we think of erasing wrinkles and restoring volume, we look to dermal fillers to help solve these issues. They help treat a variety of concerns, such as nasolabial folds, cheeks, and lips. Dermal fillers have the ability to do the following for the face and skin: Restore lost volume to the cheek area Minimize dark circles or hollowness under the eye Add a natural fullness to the lips Reduce the smile and laugh lines around the mouth Help give a youthful shape to the face Restore lost volume in the hands WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF DERMAL FILLERS? HYALURONIC ACID: JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC and Juvéderm® Ultra Plus XC are used to fill fine and deep wrinkles in the nasolabial folds, lips, and perioral area. Juvéderm® is the only hyaluronic acid filler that has been FDA approved to last up to 1 year after a single injection. Results are immediate. JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® Juvéderm Voluma® is an FDA-approved filler to correct age-related volume loss in the mid-face and can be used to fill and lift the mid-face and cheeks. Voluma® uses a cross-linking technology to bind the hyaluronic acid molecules which produce the lift and fill needed for the mid face, and contributes to its long-lasting nature. Results are immediate and can last up to 2 years. RESTYLANE® Restylane® is an injectable gel used to add fullness to the face by eliminating deep lines and wrinkles in the nasolabial folds, marionette lines, perioral area, and lips. Results are immediate and can last 6-12 months. RESTYLANE® LYFT Restylane® Lyft is an injectable gel used to add fullness to the face. It is an FDA approved filler to re-volumize the cheeks. Immediate results can be seen, lasting between 6-12 months. RESTYLANE® SILK Restylane® Silk has a unique particle gel formula that is used to enhance the lips and lines around them. It helps give your lips a softer, more subtle look, just what you want for a natural looking smile. Immediate results can be seen and can last between 6-12 months POLY-L-LACTIC ACID: SCULPTRA® Sculptra® is the first facial injectable that gives you subtle results over time, by stimulating your body to produce new collagen and providing you with a very gradual natural appearance. After a full treatment course of Sculptra®, which is an average of three injection sessions over a few months, the results you achieve can last more than two years. CALCIUM HYDROXYLAPATITE: RADIESSE® Radiesse® is the only product on the market containing calcium hydroxylapatite. Radiesse® is the first and only FDA-approved product for hand augmentation which corrects volume loss in the hands. Radiesse® restores volume to the hands while providing smooth, natural-looking results that can be seen immediately and can last up to 1 year. WHAT IS THE RECOVERY FROM DERMAL FILLERS? There is no downtime with dermal fillers. You can resume most activities right away. Mild swelling, bruising, or redness may occur following injections. These conditions can be alleviated with ice and will improve within a few days.

Each time we step outside, we are exposed to numerous factors that are damaging the skin. While we may not notice the effects on a daily basis, it is important to know that those factors are mainly responsible for dullness, fine lines, wrinkles, sunspots, and breakouts. Our bodies try to diminish these effects by shedding the damaged layers of the epidermis, but sometimes this simply is not enough. This is where chemical peels come in and help us to shed those damaged cells faster. A chemical peel at American Dermatology Associates in Sarasota, FL, is a chemical solution that is applied to the face and neck to slough away dead skin cells and improve the overall appearance of the skin. Chemical peels reveal new, younger skin for a smoother, more youthful look. WHAT IS A VI PEEL? VI Peel® is a medium depth medical grade chemical peel. The VI Peel® contains a synergistic blend of powerful ingredients suitable for all skin types. This peel provides dramatic results with virtually no pain, no skin preparation, and little downtime. WHAT DOES A CHEMICAL PEEL TREAT? Chemical peels are incredibly effective at reducing the signs of aging and sun damage, including: Wrinkles and fine lines Acne and Acne scars Age spots or liver spots Freckles Brown spots Melasma Scars Chemical peels will also help to restore a glow to the tired and dull skin.

The liquid facelift is the latest advancement in rejuvenating the face to provide a more youthful appearance. It can offer many of the benefits of a traditional facelift without having to undergo a surgical procedure with a long recovery time. All injections are performed by Dr. Trent. WHAT IS A LIQUID FACELIFT? Liquid facelifts are a highly successful and a safe alternative to a surgical facelift. Patients seeking less invasive rejuvenation of the face can achieve significant and more immediate results with the use of BOTOX Cosmetic® and fillers, such as Juvéderm®, Restylane® or Sculptra®. Liquid facelifts can restore lost volume, diminish lines and wrinkles, redefine the jawline and cheekbones, lift sagging brows, and plump lips. View more RealSelf Non-Surgical Face Lift videos WHO CANNOT HAVE A LIQUID FACELIFT? The liquid facelift is not suitable if you are pregnant/breastfeeding; ever had an allergic reaction to any of the ingredients; or if there is an infection present at site of injection. If you have severe allergies or take certain medications a liquid facelift is not recommended. WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS WITH A LIQUID FACELIFT? You will likely have mild tenderness and possibly minor bruising, redness, or swelling at injection sites. Ice packs and Tylenol can help alleviate these symptoms. Rare side effects include infection, allergic reaction, skin necrosis or blindness. People who get cold sores (herpes simplex infections) should start on antiviral medications prior to treatment to prevent reactivation of cold sores if you are receiving injection into an area that a previous outbreak has occurred. WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING MY LIQUID FACELIFT APPOINTMENT? There is no set, standard technique for a liquid facelift since the procedure is fully customized for each unique patient’s needs. A topical anesthetic will be applied prior to being injected. The products chosen for the procedure will be injected into the appropriate area or areas of the face being treated. HOW LONG DOES A LIQUID FACELIFT APPOINTMENT TAKE? A liquid facelift appointment ranges between 20-45 minutes. WHAT IS THE RECOVERY TIME WITH A LIQUID FACELIFT? There is relatively no downtime with a liquid facelift, you may continue your day immediately following your appointment. HOW LONG UNTIL I SEE RESULTS AFTER MY LIQUID FACELIFT TREATMENT? You will look and feel younger immediately after your filler treatment. BOTOX® typically takes 2 weeks for maximum effects to be visible, but some may begin to see effects in 3-5 days. HOW LONG WILL MY LIQUID FACELIFT RESULTS LAST? Depending on the product used for your liquid facelift, average results can last 6-12 months for fillers and 3-4 months for BOTOX®. Patients often require just small touch up injections in certain areas of the face to maintain results. Treatment can be repeated as needed.

Mohs Surgery, named for Dr. Frederic Mohs who developed the technique, is a highly specialized and precise treatment for skin cancer in which the cancer is removed in stages, one tissue layer at a time. It is an outpatient procedure, performed under local anesthesia, and is distinguished by a specific technique of tissue examination that is unique to Mohs surgery. THE MOHS SURGERY PROCEDURE Mohs surgery is an outpatient procedure performed in a physician’s office. Mohs surgery may be performed by a team of specialists, with each team member specializing in a different part of the surgery, or by one surgeon that is experienced and capable of performing the whole procedure. During Mohs surgery, the area that is treated is numbed with a local anesthetic. Small layers of skin are removed, and each layer is examined under a microscope to see if it has malignant cells. This process continues until the cancerous cells are removed completely. Most Mohs surgery can be performed in three stages or less, and it takes around 4 hours. RECOVERY FROM MOHS SURGERY After Mohs surgery, you may experience mild discomfort, bruising, bleeding and swelling. Pain medication will be prescribed to you as needed, although most patients require only over-the-counter pain medication. Mohs surgery does leave scars, although they are often smaller than scars left by other excision procedures. Reconstructive procedures, including skin grafts and/or skin flaps, can reduce the prominence of scars, and they can be performed with your Mohs surgery or at a later time. Often times stitches will be placed in the skin’s natural creases or in out-of-sight areas, which can help make scarring less visible. RISKS OF MOHS SURGERY In addition to the risks associated with any surgery, Mohs surgery includes the following risks: Temporary/permanent surgical-area numbness Temporary/permanent surgical-area weakness Skin discoloration Itching Shooting pain Keloid scar Following Mohs surgery, it is important to visit your dermatologist and doctor regularly to make sure that cancer has not returned or that new cancer has grown.
