The solution irritates the lining of the vein, causing it to swell shut and block the flow of blood. WHAT TO EXPECT Sclerotherapy requires multiple sessions, and can be performed on an outpatient basis. One to three treatments are usually required to effectively treat any vein. Post-treatment therapy includes wearing bandages and support hose for two days - two weeks following treatment. The treated blood vessels disappear over a period of six months.

WHAT IS RADIOFREQUENCY ABLATION? The ClosureFast procedure is performed on an outpatient basis. Using ultrasound, your physician will position the catheter into the diseased vein through a small opening in th skin. The small catheter delivers heat to the vein wall, causing it to shrink and the vein to seal closed. Once the diseased vein is closed, blood will reroute itself to other healthy veins.
