How does a tummy tuck procedure work?
Tummy tucks (also known as abdominoplasty) rank among the top six cosmetic surgery procedures performed in the United States, according to the 2019 figures provided by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. A major reason for its popularity is that it targets a common aesthetic concern in a highly visible area of the body: the abdomen. Many men and women who are otherwise in great physical shape may have loose skin and excess fat around their midsection. This undesirable physical feature can leave patients insecure when wearing certain clothing or bathing suits.
What causes loose abdominal skin?
The effects of gravity and aging on the waistline results in loose and wrinkled skin that can only be treated with surgery. People who have lost a significant amount of weight are often left with sagging folds of skin on the abdomen.
What makes a good candidate for tummy tuck surgery?
A good candidate is committed to a healthy lifestyle, are unhappy with excess skin, and have realistic expectations.
What should I expect after having tummy tuck surgery?
Following your surgery, you will have bandages and a compression garment placed over your lower abdomen. Some patients may have one or more small drainage tubes placed. We also utilize pain pumps to manage post-operative discomfort. Your recovery guidelines will include details about how to care for your surgical site, when to take medications, and other details related to your general health and healing.
What parts of my body can I have liposuction done?
We can use liposuction to effectively treat your neck, buttocks, arms, chin, midsection, hips as well as your legs and thighs.
What types of liposuction do you offer?
We offer SmartLipo®, ultrasound-assisted liposuction, and tumescent liposuction.
What makes a good candidate for a mommy makeover?
A good candidate is in good health, doesn't smoke, is finished breastfeeding and doesn't plan on having more kids.
How long until I can return to work after a mommy makeover surgery?
Depending on which procedures were included in your mommy makeover, you can expect to return to work as early as a few days after plastic surgery, but you may need two weeks or longer. Many patients are able to return to work the same week after undergoing breast augmentation, while a tummy tuck may require two weeks. We recommend taking as much time off as needed to give your body a chance to rest and recover.
How long do I have to wait to exercise after a mommy makeover procedure?
Many patients can return to regular exercising around six weeks after the procedure. Light walking can be beneficial in the first few weeks after plastic surgery to promote healthy blood circulation. Low impact exercise such as yoga may be acceptable three to four weeks after surgery. Anything more rigorous will have to be cleared by Dr. Rumalla at your post-op appointment around the six weeks or later mark.
Is body contouring covered by insurance?
Insurance companies will often consider paying for a significant breast reduction or a panniculectomy (excision of loose skin below the pubis which can cause rashes and other complications). In these instances, insurance will only pay for the extent of treatment needed to resolve practical issues.
What is the recovery process like for body contouring?
Patients will rest in our recovery room under guidance from one of our nurses. You are welcome to stay overnight, and we will walk through all discharge and aftercare instructions with you.
How long do body contouring results last?
Results can last 10 years or more. It's important to keep in mind that as you age, your results will change. The best way to achieve long-lasting results is to maintain a steady weight and regular exercise after your recovery. Leading a healthy lifestyle allows you to get the most out of your plastic surgery results.
