Frequently Asked Questions About SUGARED + BRONZED (Highland Park)

What is sugaring?

Sugaring is an ancient Egyptian hair removal technique that uses a water-soluble sugar paste is used to extract unwanted hairs. Pretty, sweet, huh? A Sugarista (a SUGARED + BRONZED licensed, female esthetician) applies the sugaring paste against the natural direction of hair growth and then uses a gentle flicking motion to remove hair in the natural direction of the hair growth.

How is sugaring different than waxing?

Sugaring removes hair in the natural direction of growth, which is the opposite of waxing (which removes hair against the natural direction of growth). According to Web MD, removing hair in the natural direction of growth can also help to prevent ingrown hair. In addition, the sugaring process doesn’t involve sticks or strips, so there’s no need to worry about the possibility of “double dipping.” Each ball of sugar paste is only used for one client and is discarded after a single use. Lastly, sugar warmers only heat sugar paste to a lukewarm temperature (at maxium heat), unlike wax which is often heated to higher temperatures and poses the risk of a burn.
