That day was today, that someone was me, and that gesture of kindness came from Jennifer at Great Clips. After sitting at his bedside for the past month, I had to deal with the untimely passing of a friend as I watched him slip away into eternity. Two days later, another friend was unexpectedly killed by a drunk driver. With Christmas nearly a week away, this has been a very difficult time to process. I just happened to glance at my reflection in the grocery store window and noticed my hair was out of control. I really didn't have any time to figure out when or where but I needed a haircut today. As luck would have it, across the parking lot was this Great Clips and I walked right in. Two stylists greeted me as they continued working with customers so I sunk myself into a chair thinking it was going to be a while. From the back, another stylist approached greeting me with a warm and welcoming smile. She said "Welcome to Great Clips" and asked for my number to sign me into their system. I was barely able to compose a coherent reply as I rattled off my number. She walked me to her chair, set me up and began engaging me with the typical small talk you would expect from a walk-in hair salon. My replies were short and closed-ended. I was preoccupied with thoughts of attending two funerals before Christmas. As I watched her through the mirror, I noticed her smile again. I could tell she takes pride in her work. She kept smiling while she attended to me. Occasionally she would glance at me through the mirror, briefly making eye contact, looking for some indication that I was pleased with her work. Her smile became a pleasant distraction from the turmoil and chaos of my current life circumstances. She was unconsciously joyful, smiling while she hummed, almost singing under her breath, along with the music playing overhead. She continued to smile, paying attention to little details, ensuring I would be satisfied with her results. Although I wasnt much for conversation, she found joy in knowing she was contributing to improving my appearance. Thank you, Jennifer, for sharing with me a glimpse of your joy. The hair cut made my day. But the kindness in your eyes and the beauty of your smile made my week!

Great Clips salons use Clip Notes®, which keeps track of any previous haircut you received at a Great Clips salon, so any stylist can give you a great haircut. If you would like to request a particular stylist, be sure to say that when you arrive at the salon and finish your check-in. Note that requesting a stylist may increase your estimated wait time.
If I checked in online, do I need to do anything when I arrive at the salon?
