We went to Akela Spa for a bachelorette party. They were fantastic to work with - making sure we all had the services we wanted (facials, massages, manicures). The atmosphere is incredible! It’s so relaxing - from the music, sauna, hot tub, locker rooms, and lounge! The front desk staff was so attentive with grabbing mimosas and getting more charcuterie boards for us. We spent around 5 hours there as a group and it was five stars start to finish!

This review is based on the experience of booking for a group of 4 and not on the actual services. My group booking experience was not an easy or smooth experience. I initially contacted the Spa in November to book several services for 4 people. Per the website on the Group tab I reached out via email to start booking the spa day for myself, sisters, and mom. Email responses were slow, sometimes over a week between response. I ended up reaching out via Facebook because of the slow response time, and possible confusion on what date we were trying to book, our group was flexible on the date as long as we could get get all 3 services. It took over 2 weeks from initial contact to get booked for services 2 months out. A week prior to our appointments I received a voicemail stating that they needed to discuss appointments as they had a staffing issue, one of our services was cancelled because the provider quit and they were the only one on staff that performs the service. Our group agreed to keep the other services so we could still have the Spa day together. I was sent a revised schedule but had our start and finish times all over the place so I asked if there was anything they could do to rearrange times, 3 of the 4 of the people were driving in from over 2 hours away, so it was inconvenient to have their times start and finish over hours apart. I also asked if it would be possible to receive complimentary garden access (something they charge $15 for) because of the inconvenience of the cancelled service and spread out times, but I was never given an answer on that but our services were rescheduled. This time they were even more spread out and not even close to what I had requested for changes, but at this point had become frustrated with the communication so decided I would address in person upon arrival to the spa on the day of our services. On the day of the services I was called with less than an hour to the start of appointments that one of the providers called in sick, affecting 2 out of the 4 in the group, they did say they had someone who could come in later in the afternoon, but once again our start and end times were not lining up and we had made reservations for dinner together that would not have worked with the reschedule of appointments. At this time we were offered the free garden access. As the group organizer and dealing with the slow communication and schedule changes I cancelled my services and the other members of the group went to their appointments since they were already in town and had drove over 2 hours to get there. Overall, if you are trying to book a group experience I would not recommend Akela Spa, they do not seem to be set up to handle it. We would have been better off booking individually and saved the 20% service charge on groups.
