I took my daughter here last weekend for ear piercing, and overall the experience itself went well. The nurse who did her piercing was very kind and did a great job helping to comfort my anxious daughter, which I truly appreciated. We chose the needle piercing option rather than the device.
Before the piercing, I was told that the needle piercing cost is per ear, while the device price covers both ears. However, it was not clearly explained that the earrings are also priced per ear with the needle option, and I did not see that noted anywhere (though it's possible I missed it).
My daughter selected earrings from the least expensive row, priced at $68. Based on what I understood, I estimated the total would be around $140-150 (needle pricing at $35 per ear plus the earrings). I was quite surprised when I went to check out after the piercing and saw the total due was $246 (I was charged $70 for the 2 needle piercing as I expected, but then it was $68 PER earring, tax was another $20, plus they charge $20 for the cleaning solution), and I was prompted to add a tip.
I wasn't aware that tipping was expected for this service. I usually tip 20% for good service, but I left 15% since I was so overwhelmed by the total already (and I felt guilty only leaving 15% since she did a good job). That added another $33.90, bringing my grand total to about $280--more than double what I anticipated.
While the service itself was positive, the lack of pricing transparency left me feeling blindsided and unfortunately put a damper on the experience. Maybe it's my fault for not paying closer attention or asking. (I must admit, we were in a rush because our parking meter was about to expire, and I was preoccupied trying to help my daughter calm her fears.) But my friend who came with us was just as shocked as me by the total.
I would recommend that Rowan provide clearer, upfront pricing, like providing a total estimate before the service (including how earrings are priced with needle piercings), to help avoid situations like this. Had I understood the full cost ahead of time, I likely would have chosen the device option to stay within budget.
Again, I want to emphasize that the nurse was wonderful and did an excellent job--I just wish the pricing had been communicated more clearly before we proceeded.
