    I recently visited Sephora and left feeling pretty embarrassed and disappointed. I tried to pay with a $100 bill I received as a graduation gift, but the employees refused to accept it because it was an older version, not the newer one with colorful security features. The cashier did the marker test (which I understand is standard procedure), and it didn’t leave a mark, indicating the bill was real. So I was confused as to why she was still so unsure and refused to accept it. Both the employee and the manager insisted it was fake and told me to take it to the bank, saying the bank would confirm it as counterfeit. They also mentioned they’ve been seeing a lot of fake older $100 bills lately. But after going to the bank, they scanned and tested it and confirmed the bill was absolutely real. That made me think this may be more of a training issue—maybe other customers have also had older bills rejected that were actually legitimate. On top of that, I felt uncomfortable while browsing. I look young, and while I was swatching makeup, an older employee kept watching me closely. It made me feel like I was being suspected of stealing, which really ruined the shopping experience. I understand stores have to be cautious, but this kind of behavior made me feel unwelcome and judged. I’ve always liked Sephora, but this visit left a bad impression. I hope they work on better training—not just in handling currency but also in making all customers feel comfortable and respected.

    My recommendation is to only make purchases at a normal Sephora store. They make it nearly impossible to return your item. It doesn’t follow any of the standard returns rules. Remember it’s just a Kohl’s.
