Today, I had one of the best experiences of my life at this Great Clips thanks to my stylist, Jasmine. I came in after a 9 month mental health crisis that left my waist-length hair completely ruined and uneven from a desperate at-home “big chop.” I walked in feeling ashamed, scared, and honestly pretty hopeless about my hair. From the moment Jasmine greeted me, she was kind, calm, and completely nonjudgmental. I told her about my PTSD and how I had gone 9 months without brushing my hair, and instead of making me feel worse, she gently said, “Okay, we got this". Throughout the whole appointment she reassured me, shared that someone in her own family was going through something similar, and made me feel less alone. The haircut itself is amazing. She took a really hard situation and somehow turned it into a style that looks intentional and trendy. For the first time in a long time, I left a salon feeling more confident and like myself again. What meant the most, though, was how much she listened. Because of my PTSD, loud noises are a big trigger for me (although I never told her about the noise sensitivity, only that I struggled with PTSD). When she picked up the hairdryer, she paused and said she wanted to warn me because she didn’t know if the noise would bother me. That tiny moment of awareness and care made me feel so seen and validated, especially from someone I had just met. In a season that hasn’t felt like the holidays at all, Jasmine was the best gift I could have received. If you’re nervous, struggling, or just need someone truly kind and talented to work on your hair, please go see her.
