  I’ve been a loyal Sephora customer for many years and have always trusted the company to uphold the highest standards for the products they carry. Unfortunately, my recent experiences have been very disappointing. On multiple visits with different associates, I’ve found the staff to be lacking product knowledge, and in some cases, I even felt misled. During one visit, an associate not only recommended a product that was not suited to my concern, but also spoke negatively about a prestigious, high-end brand I’ve trusted and used for years with great results. She claimed the product contained harmful ingredients and pushed me toward a different item—coincidentally from a brand whose representative was in the store that day. Experiences like these make it seem as though recommendations are driven more by sales incentives than by what’s truly best for the customer. As a client, I should be able to walk into Sephora and trust that the “skincare experts” will offer honest, well-informed guidance tailored to my needs—not what happens to be most beneficial for the store. Sadly, repeated interactions like this have shaken my trust in a store I once considered my go-to for quality products and advice.

  The storefront itself is lovely, well stocked and well kept however some of the staff members can brush up on their customer service. I was looking for a specific item and had the item on the Sephora website open on my phone as I was looking for the correct color for me. After I found the item I was looking for I proceeded to another brand to look for a similar item where I was aggressively approached by a cast member (I suppose who had been trailing me and monitoring my purchase) who told me I was looking at the wrong brand and I explained that I was aware I was browsing a different brand and was looking for a separate item in a different color. Perhaps it would have been helpful to ask if a customer needed assistance instead of policing their shopping. This behavior can definitely deter people from shopping if they are going to be approached and treated in a condescending manner. No worries, at least there is another Sephora at the Palisades mall.
