I attended the store’s holiday event yesterday, and while most of the staff created a warm and welcoming atmosphere, my overall experience was tainted by the behavior of one employee.
From the moment I walked in, several staff members greeted me kindly, and the vibe felt very positive. However, when I approached the woman in the red coat who was serving the cocktails and cookies, the experience became noticeably different.
Although the refreshments were complimentary, they were still part of the service provided to all customers attending the event. Each time I approached the table, she walked away. At one point, I saw her enthusiastically offering wine, water, and cookies to another couple—encouraging them to take as many as they wanted. When it was my turn, she immediately tried to leave again. I had to stop her just to ask for a glass of wine. She handed it to me without a greeting, without offering anything else, and with an energy that felt cold and dismissive—nothing like how she treated the customers before me.
What made this worse was realizing that the couple who received the full, warm service left without purchasing anything, while I spent over $100. Yet I was made to feel like an afterthought.
I don’t want to assume anyone’s intentions, but the difference in how I was treated compared to others was stark enough that it made me question whether my race played a role. Regardless of the reason, no customer should feel singled out, overlooked, or unwelcome—especially at an event meant to celebrate and appreciate clients.
I discovered this business through a YouTuber’s meet-and-greet and was genuinely excited to support it. Unfortunately, this experience left me feeling disappointed and disrespected. The company should be made aware that inconsistent treatment of customers is unacceptable and drives potential clients away.
No one should have to spend their money where they are not treated equally.

Came for the smells, stayed for the friendly conversation. This is my first time entering a Malin+Goetz store, and Brandon was so hospitable and knowledgeable that I could have stayed all day. I work in the same retail industry and very much appreciated the service and attention I was paid as soon as I entered the space. My partner and I were just browsing the store, and Brandon respected this, allowing me to peruse and smell, but also making product suggestions with an understanding of ingredients and notes.
Definitely won't be our last time entering a Malin+Goetz, but perhaps on our next trip to NYC I'll pick up that Strawberry perfume ❤️✨

First time shopping here! Hannah just helped me at the Williamsburg store and tbh I just walked by and saw flowers in the window but when I went inside to ask, she explained the brand and the promo so warmly that I wound up purchasing some nice body wash :) just leaving a review because I had a really pleasant experience and will for sure be returning!
