A few months ago, I got an Express haircut. The stylist was freshly out of school and did an excellent, careful job. I was charged $25 (and tipped extra well, because the stylist, who's probably no longer there, did such a great job).
Today, I went in for another Express cut, and this time was given a middle-aged stylist with salt-and-pepper curly hair. After having me wait 45 minutes after my appointment time, she told me she was taking me to wash my hair (which I did NOT request -- my hair was clean, and she didn't give me a choice) and then hurriedly gave me an extremely mediocre cut. Initial cutting time was 15 minutes, and she would've sent me out uneven if I hadn't gotten up the courage to point out that one side was longer than the other. She fixed it begrudgingly. Additionally, the way she did the layering was choppy. And then . . . she charged me $40 for the cut.
After paying, I looked up the pricing, to make sure it hadn't changed, and it only said $25+. I can only assume that the extra $15 was for the hair wash that I neither asked for nor approved. Not okay. What's more, she did ask about a blowdry, and I declined. I later learned that $40 is the typical markup for wash + dry. So not only was I charged for an unauthorized service, I was also charged for a service I didn't receive. Quality of second haircut was worth $20-25, not $40.
TLDR
I got a great deal the first time I went on a great haircut and a bad deal the second time on a poor haircut with an unapproved markup. Since Pennies no longer even has convenient times or a website you can book online on (it's been broken for months), I won't be going back unless I'm desperate. Also, I want my $15 back.

If you can get them to answer the phone then maybe. I feel like a shortage of staff is the overall problem.

Paytton does an excellent job and is very gentle and attentive to her customers. I appreciate the fact that she writes things down and remembers preferences. I only wish it was a bit less expensive, I'd go more often!
