- GMGlenda MartinezFeb 22, 20225.0Regarding the claims that this store refused a child with autism. I’m a former hairstylist and seeing this on the news really frustrated me. I understand that children with autism have meltdowns, I have autistic children in my family. But you cannot safely cut the hair of a child or an adult while they are having a meltdown, it is standard procedure that for any child (disabled or not) that you tell the parent to bring the child back on a day that they are feeling better. Hairstylists cannot put themselves or your child in harms way by using sharp objects around them while they are having a tantrum, they could cut or Stan themselves or your child in those circumstances, not to mention that a hairstylist has expensive equipment that they purchase themselves and if your child punches or kicks their tools out of their hands it will break hundreds of dollars in equipment. The state has blood borne pathogens procedure in place and we are not allowed to do ANYTHING that puts ourselves or our clients at risk for a blood borne infection or exposure. Seeing stories like this, involving over sensitive parents I’m happy I retired.
