I probably just need to stop going to Great Clips, because I keep having weird experiences there. It's just so hard to stop, because it's so easy to get an appointment there. (I don't think they do walk-ins anymore, but once you've put yourself in cue on the app, the wait usually isn't long).
The hairdresser who trimmed my hair today was nice enough. I left her a decent tip and an A for effort, I guess. It's just that I left with hair WAY shorter than what I wanted or was expecting. (And that's like Cardinal Sin #1 of hairdressing, isn't it)?
Apparently the stylist who trimmed my hair the last time (also a Great Clips stylist) left my hair very uneven. So the stylist today trimmed 3/4 inch off the one side, and AN INCH AND A HALF off the other, to even it out. (I am repeating what she told me).
The problem is I'd told her very clearly from the beginning to only trim my hair if the dead ends were really bad, and only then a tiny bit. (I realize "tiny bit" is a matter of perspective). I can't recall with certainty if she'd told me about my hair being so uneven before she trimmed it, but in my honest recollection, she did not. It matters, because no way would I have agreed to her trimming as much as she did, if she had been upfront with me from the beginning about the oopsie from the last appointment. I personally didn't notice that my hair was uneven. All I wanted was the dead ends knocked off.
I can't help but wonder if there was some subconscious ageism going on here. I'll be 49 in December. I know a lot of mature women think they should wear their hair short, and maybe that's what people expect them to do. (I personally have never understood the trend). I wore my hair in a bob for many years as a young person. I'm over it. I'd like to have longer hair now.
I realize 3/4 of an inch isn't that much, but apparently it was the 3/4" of an inch that mattered, because when I looked in the mirror, I was like, "Oh no!" I LOOK 49 now, and it pisses me off. The more I dwell on this, the angrier I'm getting, so I'll just leave it here.
Off the subject, but this location has a nice assortment of Dum Dums suckers at the front desk. My stylist introduced me to their new dragonfruit flavor. I wasn't a huge fan, but it's nice to know they're branching out. I really wanted Strawberry, or maybe even Bubble Gum flavor.
I should have known not to get my hair cut in October. Bad stuff always seems to happen to me in October.
