I’ve been a long time customer and seem many great hair stylists come and go from this shop. However, if you have thick natural hair, stay away from Micheryl. She’ll make you feel like your beautiful hair is an inconvenience and it’s way to difficult for her to style. I always get a simple wash and blowout. With Micheryl, I felt as my hair wasn’t cared for and she just wanted to get it over with. She didn’t ask me what kind of style I wanted with the blowout but instead asked how much I was going to tip her in the middle of the service. Luckily, I paid before she started because she later mentioned how she would have charged me more. She made it clear several times that she didn’t like working with my natural hair after I paid and sat down. Nonetheless, Micheryl is the only bad apple I’ve experienced at JCPenney salon and I’ve going here for about 6 years. Don’t let my comment discourage you from visiting. All the other stylists are fantastic, friendly, professional who love showing that they can work with all kinds of hair types.

I learned about a special this salon was having after purchasing a product from the salon. Although, I was a little hesitant I went ahead and setup an appointment for the following day at 3pm. Fast forward to the next day I arrived at 2:45 while my stylist to be Deanna or Danean arrived at 3:15. She had an attitude upon arrivial stating that if she wasn’t needed she could go home! She also complained about the other two names that had been added to her books. Then she asked if the 3:00 was even there. I was her 3 o’clock. Without evening say hi or introducing herself She asked me what stylist was I suppose to have. I told her about me being there the day before and how the stylist at the counter had booked my appointment with her. She claimed she didn’t wanna steal someone else’s client. That was the 1st red flag. I said to one of the other stylist that if it’s a problem I could leave and do my own head. I was only getting a flat iron anyway. So I put on my jacket and was on my way to walk out, when the other stylist Jennifer said that she didn’t have a client and offered to do my hair. I was like are you sure and she said yes, that she just had to switch me to her books. That was nice of her. Now the wash was cool, the blow dry was alright, I mean at one point I saw her blow drying my natural hair with ONE hand while her phone was in the other. After the blow dry she said that I needed a trim so I asked what the additional cost would be then i said ok. Now the trim was what took me over the top with my Dissatisfaction level. I wanted a trim maybe 1/4 of an inch not a hair cut meaning an inch and half. That was my fault for not saying how much. I was thinking she was just gonna dust the ends you know a little trim. My hair went from backbone length to shoulder length. I was definitely not happy but I only realized how much she had cut after the cut was over smh. When I looked in the mirror and felt my hair i was instantly ready to go. She didn’t even ask me if I liked it. My hair at the top was poofy and the “TRIM” was a sore sight within its self. What was I gonna do hoop and hollar? Um no! it’s not gonna bring back my hair. You get one chance to provide a service to me, just one. On my way out I saw the lady that had booked the appointment for me and she asked if I would be returning to see Jennifer. I felt like she put me on the spot, being that Jennifer was right in front of us. I simply shook my head No and when she asked why I told her that my hair was short and that I had just got a trim in December, she laughed and said girl it’s March almost April. So clearly my feelings/thoughts didn’t matter. I paid even gave a 5 dollar tip, the tip was for her kindness not for the service. It was just because Jennifer offered to take me when she didn’t have too. So yea I will NoT be returning to this salon. To make the situation even worse i’m getting married in two weeks! The more I think about it the more I want to cry smh.

For my sister's wedding she arranged for 5 people to get their hair done each with their own stylist. When we got there me and my mother had the same stylist-Tanya, which was not according to the plan. Although her personality was nice, Tanya did a terrible job on our hair. We had dye rings around our heads, my mother hair looked worse than when she did it at home, and my hair didn't even stay put before my ride came. We both had to go home and re-do and adjust our hair to look appropriate for the wedding. AND SHE WAS SLOW!! She had no urgency, knowing we had to be at the church at 1, didn't even start styling my head until 1:15 and we were started at 9!!! Consequently me and my mother arrived at the church late, late for makeup, and the wedding started late (my sister refused to get dressed without her mother there). It made the rest of the entire evening seemed rushed and slightly a blur. The wedding was great and no major problems. I just wished my hair looked like a professional did it and that I could have had time to truly soak in the moments of my sister's wedding. After this, I know I will not be returning to the JCPenny Salon EVER!!

Scheduled an appointment for 12:30 pm. Called the stylist (Lavelle) to let her know I would he late. She said that was fine, she was also running late. I arrived at the shop only to find her working on some one else's hair. Ok. How long will I need to wait? I asked her, she said about a half an hour, it's been one hour and I'm still waiting. I just asked again about how long and she says with an attitude, about 10 minutes. Ok. This is why Leary about letting people do my hair because when the stylist has an attitude BEFORE she even starts over something that is not the client's fault. I have something important to do so I'm really hoping that this isn't a major fail. Smh guess I'll see since I'm in a bind now
