I absolutely love Edona! I truly can’t recommend her enough—she is the best. I have very fine, delicate hair that can be easily damaged, so I’m extremely particular about who I trust. From the very beginning, she has been so gentle, detail-oriented, and truly understands how to care for my hair. Her work is consistently beautiful, especially with balayage. The color always turns out soft, natural, and perfectly blended. I receive so many compliments, and people are always asking who does my hair. For special events, I like volume but nothing too overdone, and she always creates the most elegant, balanced look. She just gets it. I’m Korean and have had my hair done at top salons in Korea , but I genuinely prefer going to her. I feel completely confident in her hands every time. She is truly exceptional 🤍

This salon seems to prioritize upselling and promotion over the actual client experience and final results. The reason I’m giving two stars instead of one is because Scarlette is very talented and gave me a good haircut. The photos attached show a clear before and after: the light blonde photo is the regular health and condition of my hair BEFORE this appointment, and the darker, dry photo shows the condition of my hair after the service. Not only is the color incorrect, but my hair was left severely damaged- dry, brittle, and breaking. Unfortunately, the rest of my experience was extremely disappointing. I’ve spent the last three weeks debating whether to post this review, but I ultimately decided to share it in the hope that it might spare others a similar situation. I originally came in for highlights. To be fair, I initially booked the wrong service, and the salon was accommodating in rescheduling me. However, the first thing I was told when I arrived was to “make sure to follow them on Instagram,” which immediately made the experience feel more focused on promotion than the client. When I returned for my color appointment, I showed the stylist exactly what I wanted. She explained that it couldn’t be achieved in one sitting. I was surprised, because my stylist in San Diego had been taking me to that exact color in one appointment for five years without damaging my hair. Instead, the stylist proceeded with her own plan. At no point during the appointment was I told the service would cost anywhere near what it ultimately did. After 6.5 hours in the chair, I left with a $950 bill before tip and severely damaged hair. My hair was completely fried, brittle, dry, and breaking from the root down. I’m a natural chestnut/golden blonde and have been going lighter for over 15 years and have never experienced damage like this. I have also never paid over $500 with tip or spent more than 3.5 hours in a chair for similar services and my regular hair services have been in San Diego, Manhattan, and The Hamptons- all known for expensive price tags. Additionally, my hair has always remained shiny and healthy until this visit. The salon also pushes Kerastase products heavily throughout the appointment, which felt more like a sales pitch than a thoughtful recommendation. They are clearly trained in upselling the product and were following scripts. Personally, I found the products smell very unpleasant and don't perform any better than much cheaper alternatives. My $6 Pantene works significantly better than the $70 Kerastase. Additionally, the salon requires clients to pay for half of their service before even arriving for the appointment. Overall, my impression of this business is that it prioritizes revenue and upselling over the quality of the service, the client experience, and the final result. Three weeks later, my hair is still breaking and I’m now trying to repair the damage that occurred during this appointment. Moving forward, I will simply fly back to San Diego for my hair treatments... it will still cost less (including the flight...) than this salon and consistently produce significantly better results. Had I known I was going to pay $1,300+ to ruin my hair....

Ari gave me a precise and very technical cut. I have a difficult time finding her level expertise in Hawaii in general so I am very pleased to have found her.

I’ve been coming to J Salon for a while now, mostly for blowouts—but this time I came in for root color and sat down with a talented colorist who had a clear plan and the expertise to back it up. She took me somewhere I hadn’t explored before, color-wise, and I left feeling transformed. After several weeks, though, I realized the new look just wasn’t settling into me less a reflection of her work, which was genuinely excellent, and more about my own relationship with change. With a touch-up appointment already on the books, I found myself needing something sooner, so I came back and was seen by Ari. From the moment she sat down with me, what struck me most wasn’t just her skill it was her character. She started with a real consultation, asking the right questions to understand not just what I wanted to change but why. She didn’t just listen—she heard me. Then she walked me through her recommendation clearly and confidently, so I understood exactly what she was going to do and why it would work. And work it did. Ari neutralized the red and brassy tones that had been bothering me and replaced them with something softer, warmer, and more dimensional. The kind of color that moves with you and catches light in a way that feels effortless. She honored the integrity of the larger hair plan already in motion while making the color feel unmistakably like me again. That balance is harder to achieve than it sounds. But beyond the technical brilliance, what stays with me is not once did Ari undermine her coworkers work. She stepped in with grace, respected what had been built, and made it better. She’s the kind of professional who lifts people up her clients and her coworkers. That’s rare, and it doesn’t go unnoticed. This place literally has top experts from blow outs to hair cuts to color specialist.
