Lady on first chair on the right wasn’t very knowledgeable on cutting hair. She was changing guards that didn’t match from left to right side, then moved to use no guard to fade, leaving bunch of patches all around. I had to point out that there were patches, and she would get back to it multiple times thinking it’s good when it’s not. Had to get another person to help the situation because the fade looked so terrible, I think it got better with her but this was a complete nightmare. I hope she has a license to cut hair, I think I could do a better job at home. 0/10 don’t recommend here at all. I just wasted money.

My friend (who is mixed-race) and I who is an African American visited this Great Clips location for her to get a haircut. She has been to this location before. A Caucasian stylist—identified to us as either Heather or Rebecca (we were given two different names)—cut her hair uneven and far too short. When my friend asked me to look at it (with the stylist’s permission), I immediately noticed the cut was uneven. My friend told her she cut it too short. Her response was a sarcastic, “Oh, I’m sorry,” followed by quoting the price. My friend paid, and we left. Once we reached our destination, we realized the haircut was much worse than we initially thought, so we returned to have it corrected. When we walked back in, the stylist was sitting with her legs crossed and loudly said, “Oh man, they are back. I cut her hair this morning and messed it up,” while laughing. There were two other Caucasian employees present at the time. The manager—who was the only African American woman working—sat my friend down and began fixing the haircut. My friend showed her the issues in the front, and the manager asked me to point out the uneven areas in the back since my friend could not see. I was polite, and professional throughout. During this time, the stylist who caused the issue sat nearby watching and smiling. A Caucasian man named George Simmons/Simms, who identified himself as the Regional Manager, walked over and took over. He minimized the issue and began instructing the manager as if she had caused the problem. He never addressed the stylist who originally messed up the haircut and instead spoke to the African American manager as though she was at fault. As I continued pointing out the uneven areas, George spoke to me rudely and said, “You can move and sit down. You don’t have a license, so get out of the way.” When I said “Excuse me?” he repeated it aggressively. To avoid escalation, I told my friend I would wait in the car. As I walked out, George made racially offensive comments, including telling me to “wear your real hair,” along with additional racial slurs. I went to my car and called corporate to report the incident. When asked for his name, I briefly opened the door and asked my friend to get it. George responded, “I’m the Regional. My name is George Simms. Now get out.” After my friend’s hair was finished, she asked to speak with someone above him. George stated that he was the Regional Manager and said that because he is a veteran, he could speak to people however he wanted. When my friend told him his behavior sounded racist, he became loud and dismissive, saying he did not care and that I should have been sitting down and out of the way. As we left, he ran behind my car attempting to get my plate number while on the phone with the police. I pulled back into a parking space and waited. When officers arrived, I explained what happened. After speaking with him, the officers told me they did not understand why the police were called and stated no report would be made. Later, the owner of the location contacted us. While reviewing security footage, he stated there was no audio, which explains how George felt comfortable saying whatever he wanted. The owner showed no sympathy toward me. He asked only my friend for her address to send her something, then stated he lives in Atlanta and suggested that when he comes to town they could possibly go to dinner. He never once asked if I was okay. The owner stated that George “isn’t racist” and was “sick and going through something.” That is not an excuse to racially profile, harass, or humiliate especially in a professional setting. If someone cannot control their behavior at work, they should not be working, let alone holding a regional leadership position. George humiliated me and also undermined and humiliated the African American manager by taking over and treating her as though she was incompetent. I will be sharing this experience publicly and with news outlet because no one should be treated this way. Reply to Owner: We did that and nothing was resolved at all.

Honestly a very shoddy job. Interaction was great, but the end result was just not professional as the other locations. During the haircut, the shears felt rough on the hair. I have uneven spots and it did not feel like a full haircut. I have been to other locations in Augusta, but this one does not offer military dc. This is my first visit at this location and the last.
