I had a disappointing experience today at the Coconut Point Mall location of Hair Cuttery, which is unfortunate because my daughter has been a loyal customer here for a couple of years.
I was contacted yesterday via text by a Hair Cuttery booking assistant offering 50% off an available appointment for my daughter at 1:00pm, which I accepted. We arrived earlier at 12:50pm and checked in, but my daughter was not taken until 1:30pm, and not even by the stylist she was originally scheduled with. This made it clear to me the salon was overbooked.
The stylist, Sylvia, was polite during the haircut itself. However, before she started the haircut, I calmly asked why we were booked at 1:00pm if they were running busy and behind, her response was: “it’s this or nothing.” That was unprofessional and dismissive.
At checkout, the experience became even more uncomfortable. When I provided the 50% discount code that Hair Cuttery had sent me, Sylvia appeared visibly upset and commented, “it’s only $32,” implying I shouldn’t be using the discount. That is not appropriate, this was an offer from the company, not something I asked for.
Additionally, during the shampoo, she told me she would apply a conditioner treatment to my daughter’s hair. My daughter is 7 and doesn’t require much product, and only a small amount was used. She never mentioned that this would be an additional charge (if it even was), so I agreed, assuming it was included in the service.
At checkout, while clearly upset, she pointed out that she “didn’t charge” me for the conditioner treatment and that because of the discount, I received it for free. This felt unnecessary and uncomfortable, as if I was being made to feel cheap for using a promotion. I then offered to pay for the treatment, but she ignored me. For context, a kid’s signature haircut with shampoo and conditioner is listed at $15, yet my total came to $32 for a Signature Kid’s Cut with Blowout (10 & under), which makes her comment even more confusing and inappropriate.
Despite all of this, I still tipped 25%. After handing me the receipt, she walked away without a word.
This is not how you treat repeat customers. Between the long wait, poor communication, and unprofessional behavior at checkout, this experience did not reflect the level of service I would expect.

I went in for their $20 first time customer coupon and the hairstylist was very rude, rushed through my haircut, insulted my hair, and was very mad about giving me the discount. I went to my car and saw her take my receipt and show it to her coworker - probably to make fun of me or complain about the coupon THEIR company offers. Bad experience. Not friendly, do not recommend.
