  Azziz provided quite possibly the best massage I’ve ever had. He was incredibly attentive and it’s clear that he knows the art (and science) of physiology and massage therapy very well. He took the extra time to walk me through what muscles were holding tension and how to help relieve that tension between massages. It was the perfect balance between relaxation and much needed bodywork. Could not recommend Azziz more!

  I have gotten a number of messages at Aura Spa over the years, and I had nothing but positive and glowing things to say about the two therapists I had seen previously. However, I had taken a year off getting messages for various reasons, and this was my first time back in over a year. First, the therapist did not introduce himself to me or engage in any conversation with me about what I wanted out of the message. I was simply told to begin face down before he left for me to strip and get under the cover. The message continued with a very weird vibe. While he was messaging my neck and shoulders, he asked if I have anxiety since I was tight. He also additionally said I clearly had a bad mattress due to how tight I was. At one point (again during the message), he revealed that he had confused who I was and was under the impression that I was one of his previous clients. The weird and not at all relaxing comments continued throughout the message. Additionally, he never at any point asked about prior injuries, which was very relevant to me as I had suffered a serious knee injury within the last year and while it is 95% healed, I had planned to request that he did not attempt to stretch my quad by flexing my knee to its maximum. Given that I had no space and time to make this request prior to the message starting, I ultimately had to stop him during the message when he attempted this. Lastly, the therapist completely skipped my glutes and barely worked on my quads. It is unclear to me if this was due to him being male, but I paid for a full-body message and fully expected to get this area of my body worked for. If this was a part of this therapists' practice, this 100% should have been disclosed previously and if he was unsure, this again should have been part of a pre-message conversation. I had only had positive experiences before this one, but this experience has made it clear to me that the positive experiences I had were a function of the individual therapists I saw and NOT a function of Aura Spa wide protocols or training. I would only recommend Aura Spa with a known message therapist, as it is clear that there is not a high level of standardization between therapists.

  Taneeshia is an excellent massage therapist. Today I got the sports massage at Aura Spa at the Navy Yard. Her technique is amazing and she loosened all of my knots and gave me a great stretch. I feel fantastic! I will definitely be back soon.
