  I got my ears pierced here 6 days ago for a flat and a mid helix. I usually go to a professional piercing studio/tattoo shop (Iris) downtown, but decided to try Rowan one morning. It all seemed fine initially, and I decided to research Rowan a bit further on Reddit when I got home. A lot of people were saying not to go here, it’s basically a repackaged version of Claire’s, the nurses are nice but not certified to be piercers (beyond their initial corporate training), etc. That made me nervous, but what validated it was within 4 days, my ear was so insanely swollen and red, beyond the normal swelling and soreness of a new cartilage. My ear was pulsing, throbbing, had swelled to the length of the posts, was starting to swell around the earrings, and just felt totally off and more severe than normal healing. I slept on a piercing pillow; cleaned as directed, and took the same care of these earrings that I did my cartilage piercings from Iris. While my Iris piercings healed with nearly no downtime, the Rowan piercing was sooo inflamed and angry. I was nervous today with how excruciating the pain was (to the point where all I can hear in my head is my ow ear throbbing), so I went back to Iris for a diagnoses. They saw that both helixes done by Rowan were pierced at angles, causing inflammation and abnormal swelling. We had to remove both piercings for risk of infection, which was some of the worst pain I had ever felt. I went home and followed Iris’ instructions on how to clean my ear, and it’s feeling a lot better just a few hours later, but still have a few days ahead of me of babying this ear. I think the concept of Rowan is cute, the staff are immensely friendly, the jewelry looks cute, etc. but pleeeease be careful where you get your ears pierced, especially pesky cartilage piercings that need proper analysis of your ear anatomy and a multiple years long experienced piercing shop who specializes in all kinds of body art and piercings. Rowan is a cute concept in theory, I’m sure some lobe piercings are fine (with no gun), but I wish I just stuck with Iris for my other cartilage piercings because this week was so painful. Piercing through cartilage requires tons of knowledge and experience in your specific ear anatomy, not just pushing a needle through. 2 stars because genuinely the staff are so nice, the store is cute, I’m sure lobe piercings are fine. I hate leaving a bad review but do feel like I need to share my experience.

  My experience at Rowan was excellent! Emily pierced my third holes. She explained the difference between a device and needle piercing that close to cartilage to me, and helped me decide to do needle. Her work was quick, painless, and fantastic! Thank you Emily! It's been a week and they're healing great. I love my new, adorable butterfly earrings!

  Such a great experience. Both of my girls got their first piercings here at 6. Both times, the experience was seamless and the crew was incredibly lovely, professional, and precise with their placement. Highly recommend!

  I went to get my doubles re-pierced and I am so happy with my experience! Elena was so sweet and welcoming from the start. Very helpful and knowledgeable to recommend the right piercing technique for my situation. Then Alyssa (my piercer) was absolutely amazing! I am so grateful for her attention to detail and how quick and painless the process was. The shop was very clean and lots of different options. I’d highly recommend the whole process!
