Now, I know for a fact that sometimes you can bend or snap an acrylic nail, and it pulls your real nail up with it. It hurts like crazy, but it's not a life-changing injury. Yet this woman acted like she had amputated arms. She said she couldn't use a curling iron, couldn't use a blow dryer, and couldn't shampoo. I honestly thought she was going to tell me she'd have to cut my hair with her toes or something. This was no ordinary salon. This was a place committed to the principle of "less is more." While most businesses try to upsell you, this stylist was a fervent minimalist, dedicated to making sure I received the absolute bare minimum. She looked at me in horror when I asked for more than a haircut, as if I had just requested a team of surgeons. I immediately felt like the most unwanted guest, so uncomfortable that I didn't even stay for the haircut.
