Called the Sephora in the morning to ask a question. The worker sharply answered my questioned and hung up. I hadn’t realized and was asking a follow up question eventually realizing I was talking to a blank phone.
I would highly NOT recommend booking an appointment for make up here as they are totally unreliable. Especially if you have an important event planned - look elsewhere. I booked a week or so in advance and they called me a few hours before my appointment to tell me that their staff had family emergency and they cancel my appointment. Without offering any alternative time or location. It was Sunday morning and I had important event planned right after. Never ever I’m gonna book any appointment with Sephora.
Disappointing checkout experience
The whole experience happened at checkout. I had picked the products myself and had photos with me, so I just wanted to double-check that I had the right ones. Instead of simply helping, the employee responded in a dismissive way that made me feel like I was bothering her.
When I tried to tap to pay, a message came up that I didn’t notice right away. I asked her why it didn’t work, and she simply told me, “Read it,” in the same dismissive tone. I tried again and then realized that I needed to use the physical card, which I actually had in my car.
I could have easily gone back and completed the purchase, but because of the way I was treated, I decided to leave the products behind—even though I was making a fairly large purchase. Very disappointing experience.
On several visits to this location, I have not been greeted or offered assistance by staff. This has stood out to me because my experiences at other Sephora locations have been very different. Even at much busier stores, staff have generally acknowledged me or asked if I needed help, and at other locations I have even received thoughtful product recommendations. I do not expect that level of attention every time, but the consistent lack of even basic acknowledgment at this location has felt unusual.
During my visit today, the experience continued at checkout. The cashier did not greet me at all, even though we made eye contact. When I mentioned wanting to use my points, I was simply told, “You only have 300 points.” I had to ask specifically about the 250-point/$5 redemption option (Beauty Insider celebration offer) myself. This was not a major issue on its own, but it added to the overall impression that the interaction was dismissive rather than helpful.
I certainly do not expect staff to constantly approach me while I shop—in fact, I am perfectly happy browsing independently and generally prefer not to be interrupted unnecessarily. But there is a difference between giving customers space and not acknowledging them at all. A simple hello, brief acknowledgment, or “Let me know if you need anything” is very different from being repeatedly ignored.
I was genuinely happy to have a Sephora open in Milton, and I really want this store to do well. I hope management can ensure that all customers receive the same basic level of courtesy and acknowledgment.
I’ve been struggling with seborrheic dermatitis and post-inflammatory hypopigmentation on my face, so finding the right skincare and makeup products for my sensitive skin and repairing my skin barrier has been incredibly challenging.
I went into Sephora today looking for a better foundation and concealer shade, and thanks to Tia, I left with so much more. She helped me find the perfect foundation and concealer shades, a colour corrector to help with my hypopigmentation, and two skincare products that will moisturize and help protect my skin barrier.
I was in the store testing products on my own and feeling a little lost until Tia approached me and kindly offered to help. She was knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely took the time to understand my concerns instead of just recommending products.
I’m so grateful I met Tia today. She made such a positive impact on my confidence, and I truly feel like my skin will thank her for it. Thank you so much, Tia, for your kindness, expertise, and exceptional customer service. Sephora is lucky to have you!
