I usually love this Sephora location, but my most recent experience left a bit of a sour impression. I saw an advertisement for a new fragrance launching on 3/18, so I called the store ahead of time to confirm availability. I was told it was in stock, which prompted me to make the drive over.
Once I arrived, I didn’t see the fragrance on the floor, so I asked an employee for assistance. She checked in the back and returned to let me know it wouldn’t be launching for a few more days. I explained that the product was listed as available online and that I had called earlier specifically to confirm before coming in.
At that point, I was understanding, but I simply wanted to smell the fragrance. However, I was told that wouldn’t be possible either. That part was disappointing. As someone who works in beauty retail management, I know how impactful small moments of service can be. If a guest had received incorrect information from my store and made the effort to come in, I would absolutely try to accommodate something as simple as a fragrance test on a blotter.
One team member even mentioned how great it smells, which made it more frustrating knowing the product was available in the back but not accessible even for a quick scent test. Overall, this felt like a missed opportunity to deliver a thoughtful customer experience. Better communication around launches and a bit more flexibility in service would go a long way.
