I am currently pregnant and have been coming in more frequently due to nausea, as it is difficult for me to wash my own hair. During my most recent visit, I had a very disappointing experience. When I walked in, one stylist was clearly busy but in a great mood and engaging with customers. The stylist who approached me at the front simply said, “It will be a while,” without any further communication or courtesy. There was no reassurance or acknowledgment beyond that. When I was taken back for my shampoo service, the stylist did not properly scrub my scalp or condition and detangle my hair in the way that is typically done for my hair texture. I am mixed (Black and White), and there is a specific way my hair needs to be washed and circulated to prevent tangling. I did not come in with knots in my hair — I had professionally had my braids removed and my hair combed out beforehand. However, improper washing techniques caused my hair to become tangled. When I asked about detangling, I was told, “We’re not technically supposed to get knots out,” despite the knots being caused during the service. Additionally, water was dripping onto me throughout the shampoo because no towel was properly placed, leaving me uncomfortable. I regularly tip $20 on a $10 shampoo service because I value good service. This experience felt rushed, dismissive, and unprofessional. As a long-time customer, this was extremely disappointing.

My hair was handled like it had a contagious disease and my things were handled the same way. Usually you find people excited to share what they know about hair and different ways to maintain it. My hair was hacked away at without a word and picked through like garbage. My cut ended up being comped and that was a nice gesture. But today will always leave a bad taste it my mouth from the lack of professionalism and lack of care or empathy. Esp with being of the same ethnicity. A comped cut is not enough esp. with that at home style of customer service. You are representing a business, not doing hair out of your home. Shame on you.
