I’ve struggled to write this review. I do not think my stylist is bad at what she does and I could tell she is passionate about hair. There were a lot of circumstances that led to poor decisions and that is what I’m going to write about today.
I had not gotten my hair done professionally in about a decade, and I hadn’t gotten my hair colored in probably 15+ years. I would always do a straight cut across and have my husband even it out. About a month ago I tried to mix things up and followed a YouTube tutorial by a popular YouTuber. Unfortunately it didn’t go well and I cut a chunk out of the back of my hair. But my hair was long enough that I could tie it back to hide this mistake. I’ve attached a picture for reference.
I went to Joan’s and showed them what I’d done to my hair. A stylist looked it over and said “No problem! We’ll get you fixed up. $150 and 2 hours max.” I got an appointment scheduled for my day off the following week and was so excited to finally be doing something for myself. My mom told me 2 hours seemed like not much time but I shrugged her comments off because the stylist at Joan’s came off as confident about her estimations during the consultation.
Day of, I bought Starbucks for myself and my stylist to start the day off right. Again, I was stoked to finally be treating myself to something like this after throwing myself into motherhood for a decade. I didn’t have an reference pictures because I knew that my stylist would be working around the bad cut, but I did have some pretty clear parameters: Keep as much length as possible, keep the color natural, and ensure that the final cut is modern/young.
My stylist immediately noted the thickness of my hair but remained confident. We talked and talked and everything was going great. But after about an hour and a half she was still doing foils and started getting concerned. She had another client scheduled and debated calling that client, but decided not to. And I began to feel terrible because I could tell my stylist was getting stressed.
The other client showed up and my stylist told me she wished she had called but it was too late now. She began to juggle the two of us at the same time which caused everything to be rushed. Washes: rushed. Toner: rushed. And the ultimate bad decision: My haircut was rushed. She also told me she wouldn’t have time to dry/style my hair. I didn’t keep track of the time but the cut couldn’t have been more than 10 to 15 minutes. She had me facing away from the mirror so I couldn’t see what was happening. She said at one point “Oh, these layers are a bit short… But that’s okay!” and of course my heart dropped into my stomach.
She turns me around and I’m trying to put on a brave face because she’s telling me it looks cute and that it’ll dry beautifully. But I know. I know it’s not good. I pay $210, she tells the owner that it’s a “Wolf Cut” which is the first time I’ve heard those words uttered all day. And then I get the heck out of there. I end up bawling in the car with my wet, chopped up hair. I bawl at home. I cancel my birthday celebration for the following day because the dried hair looks insane. I’ve had layered hair before, but these “layers” are insane. Totally uneven, super short in some places, longer on one side. There's no rhyme or reason to the cuts. They did not even out what I had done. And the hair itself feels fried in places. The worst part is that there is no hiding this: It’s too short to put in a pony tail.
Everything had been going okay until the cut. I wish my stylist had asked me to come back for the cut/style if there wasn’t enough time. I would have been disappointed, but I would have understood. I would have even scheduled for another day if my stylist had realized my hair would take longer after initially sitting down at 11am that morning. But I threw all my trust into her. I regret that.
So I’m writing here to say *please* don’t rush when it comes to people’s hair. Make new plans if you have to. Disappointment in scheduling is so much better than the devastation of a bad haircut.

Kaitlyn did such a great job on my hair, I'm in love with it! She is super knowledgeable and very talented at her craft. Joan, the owner, who I sat and chatted with is wonderful as well! Cute salon, friendly people, and unbeatable prices. A+

I hesitated to ask for a perm because my hair is so fine that it has always damaged it. But I did. Joan gave me the best perm I’ve ever had. It’s soft with big curl! My sister likes it so much that she wants the same thing! Joan is very nice and easy to talk to. She has a large line of products. I’m glad I took a chance.
