- TKtanner KDec 18, 20251.0Usually avoid because of unhelpful and weird atmosphere. Dude behind the counter was particularly unhelpful, I don't expect a whole lot at a parts store, just need to help me find parts, apparently that's too much to ask.

P. looked me straight in the eye and told me he could not help me because my request required a "red" store and Woodruff is a "blue" store and the store manager had just left for the day. It was early afternoon, mid week. Later found out Advance Auto has no such designations.

HOW DO BRAKES WORK?

Brakes work by using friction to turn kinetic energy into heat. There are two designs: drum brakes (older), and disc brakes (newer). Both use hydraulic pressure to move a piston outward. In disc brakes, the piston is located inside a caliper that houses brake pads and fits over the rotor. The friction lining on the pads makes contact with the rotor to slow the vehicle. In drum brakes, the piston moves two curved shoes lined with friction material against the inside of the brake drum.
