I was stuck in a freezing parking lot for 10 min. trying to start my vehicle. It made me test nearly 5 or 6 times (I lost count after 4 due to frustration) before it finally accepted the sample.
I had surgery on my mouth and jaw several weeks ago, so I shouldn't be blowing into the device as hard as its making me. It's not doing anything good for my healing process. Everyone else I've ever seen with your device has to blow so hard it looks like they go lightheaded. Maybe its time to design a new device. The one's you guys have looks like it was made in the 80's.
The only reason I'm giving a decent star review is because the last rep I talked to actually had useful information to help me. Besides that though, almost every other rep I get isn't a native English speaker, and they are nearly impossible to understand. Please raise the bar for English fluency a little.
I initially chose you guys because your pricing, service, install, etc. were reasonable. But the trade off for that is starting to look pretty significant. I would think you guys would want a good enough product+service that the client would be willing to recommend it to others. It feels like you guys dont care about that very much.

This is about intoxaloc, not the shop that installs them. The device is a joke, and hazardous. It makes sense to make someone submit a breath sample to start a vehicle. But to make the driver play hyperventilation passout game Russian roulette is stupid and dangerous. As a passenger, I'd rather ride with someone that just took 6 shots of jack and sniffed a line of fentanyl. At least that driver can keep both hands on the wheel. Seriously think about it, making someone take their hand off the wheel, count hyperventilated breaths in sync with a beeping alarm to the point of light headedness. It's dangerous and stupid. Mathews tires in waupaca is a solid shop, and as far as their automotive business, they professionally install and service/ calibrate the device, and their service as a shop is recommended. But the intoxaloc company and the state that licenses them, you people are idiots. Elementary school students can figure out that " hey a device that distracts a driver and diverts their attention is dangerous." Stupid stupid money hungry people.

I chose to get my intoxalock system installed at Matthew Tire and I am glad I chose that location cause they treated me with care and most certainly very very thorough with explaining how it works and warning me about getting locked out about certain things that are not common knowledge, which in turn definitely saved me money. The appointment was set to take 2-4 hours and it was most certainly done before the 3 hour mark and that included them explaining everything very well and addressing all my concerns and questions definitely will be taking my vehicle there for all my vehicle needs from now on. Also the from desk people were very helpful when my paperwork ended up a little wrong, and it wasn't even thier fault.
Frequently Asked Questions About Intoxalock Ignition Interlock
How does an interlock device work?
An ignition interlock device (IID) is a small breathalyzer installed in your vehicle to prevent it from starting if alcohol is detected on your breath. Before driving, you'll blow into the device. If your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) is below the programmed limit, the car starts. Periodic retests occur during your trip to ensure continued compliance. To read more on Intoxalock, you can read our ignition interlock device guide.
What is the cost of an ignition interlock device?
The installation of an ignition interlock device, often called a car breathalyzer, typically costs between $70 and $150. This one-time fee is paid at the start of your lease and covers the service center's labor to install the device in your vehicle. Payment is made directly to the service center at the time of installation. For more on cost breakdowns, you can read our cost of ignition interlock device guide.
How do I use my interlock device?
Using an IID is simple. To start your vehicle, blow into the device as directed. If the device detects no alcohol, your car will start. You may be prompted for "rolling retests" while driving, where you’ll blow into the device again to confirm compliance. How-to videos are also available on the Intoxalock mobile app.
Where do I get an ignition interlock device?
Ignition interlock devices can be installed at certified service centers nationwide. Intoxalock offers a convenient network of locations and helps you schedule an installation appointment near you. Visit our Intoxalock locations page or call us to find the nearest service center and begin the installation process.
How long will my installation take?
Installing an ignition interlock device typically takes 1-2 hours, depending on your vehicle type. Certified technicians ensure the device is properly installed and provide you with training on how to use it. Contact Intoxalock for an appointment and an accurate time estimate for your installation.
What happens if I fail a breath test on my ignition interlock device?
If you fail a breath test, your vehicle will not start, and the device will log the event. Depending on your state’s regulations, multiple failed tests may trigger additional penalties, such as lockouts or reporting to your monitoring authority. Intoxalock devices allow you to retest after a short wait if alcohol is no longer detected. Always follow your state’s guidelines to remain compliant.
Can I install an ignition interlock device in a vehicle I don’t own?
Yes, in most cases, you can install an ignition interlock device in a vehicle you regularly drive, even if you’re not the registered owner. However, the vehicle owner must provide consent for the installation. Intoxalock works with you and the owner to ensure compliance with state regulations and the successful setup of the device.
What should I do if my ignition interlock device locks me out?
If your ignition interlock device locks you out, it’s usually due to missed tests, failed tests, or state-specific requirements. Intoxalock offers a simple lockout override process in most cases to help you get back on the road quickly. Contact Intoxalock customer support for assistance and to understand the steps needed to resolve the issue.
