Service installation went very smoothly. As for the device itself trying to re-test while driving is terrible! Whoever felt this was safe whatsoever is crazy!!! Extremely distracting!!! I couldn’t get my breath pattern appropriate while trying to drive and was panicked that I was going to lock out while driving!!! I kept having to re-do it and had to pull off the roadway. Wisconsin laws on this are insane!! You are already video recorded starting the vehicle why on earth would it be necessary to try and do this while driving!! You are on camera the entire time you are driving. Smh

I am very frustrated with this device. I have to test so many times during my 30 minute commute that I get light headed. I feel it should be alterable based on whether it’s voluntary or required. 4 tests in 30 minutes is ridiculous & a huge driving distraction. The person on the phone gave me little additional information other than what is available on the internet. I feel there must be something better!!!! Also, why is the threshold set at 0.02 when up to 0.08 is legal in WI?? While I find the device frustrating I have been very pleased with installation & support obtained from the company to help remedy the challenges I have encountered. Markham was wonderful to work with for install & Isais has been very attentive & diligent in addressing my concerns.
Frequently Asked Questions About Intoxalock Ignition Interlock
How does an interlock device work?
An ignition interlock device (IID) is a small breathalyzer installed in your vehicle to prevent it from starting if alcohol is detected on your breath. Before driving, you'll blow into the device. If your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) is below the programmed limit, the car starts. Periodic retests occur during your trip to ensure continued compliance. To read more on Intoxalock, you can read our ignition interlock device guide.
What is the cost of an ignition interlock device?
The installation of an ignition interlock device, often called a car breathalyzer, typically costs between $70 and $150. This one-time fee is paid at the start of your lease and covers the service center's labor to install the device in your vehicle. Payment is made directly to the service center at the time of installation. For more on cost breakdowns, you can read our cost of ignition interlock device guide.
How do I use my interlock device?
Using an IID is simple. To start your vehicle, blow into the device as directed. If the device detects no alcohol, your car will start. You may be prompted for "rolling retests" while driving, where you’ll blow into the device again to confirm compliance. How-to videos are also available on the Intoxalock mobile app.

What happens if I fail a breath test on my ignition interlock device?
