  Silver Lake typically and historically has done a thorough evaluation and often repair of our vehicles. I have had them look at and / or repair three different vehicles to date. However, the recent diagnosis and evaluation of my sedan, in my opinion was sub par. I took my sedan to them notifying them the service engine soon light came on this week and that I had the code(s) read using Auto Zones free of charge scanner. The codes included a P0430 code which was associated with the bank 2 catalyst system. However, there were no drivability differences such as loss of power, pulsating, or decreased efficiency. Based on my brief research, there are methods mechanics / shops use to pinpoint the actual failed device within the system such as inspecting the O2 sensors (and take resistance readings), performing smoke tests on the overall system to identify any potential leaks, looking at the catalytic converter itself with a scope to determine the actual condition it is in, measuring temperature before the CAT and after, etc. So when I called and disclosed all of this to Silver Lake, they indicated they would get to the root of the problem with a thorough diagnosis. I dropped the vehicle off in the morning and they sent their diagnosis back around noon the same day. The diagnosis was effectively a failed Bank 2 Catalyst System with code P0430 coming up on a scanner. No other diagnosis on the system was meaningful. They quoted near $3,100 to repair 1 of the 2 catalytic converters and indicated I would need or want to do both sides at the same time. So the solution proposed was to put over $6k into a car that will be 14 years old in less than 1 year. And the disheartening part was they didn't perform any value-added diagnosis of the Bank 2 system. They did what Auto Zone does for free: take a reading of the computer. The difference is Auto Zone reads and prints in about 5 minutes. The Silver Lake diagnostic was a half-day off from work. Finally, the diagnostic report sent me clearly read complimentary diagnostic. However, when I turned down the overall repair, because I didn't feel it worth replacing every component of the system for that price, given the age of the vehicle, they said ok well then you owe us $240 for today's diagnostic. I paid it. I understand that shops have labor and overhead. But given Silver Lake did not perform any evaluation of the actual separate components of the catalyst system, as was the expectation, to provide more information than Auto Zone's free reading, I am very disappointed. I have $240 less today, and have zero new information. Silver Lake told me what I already knew. They should have been up front and said they don't have the experience or capability to evaluate beyond scanning the computer. Had they, I would have thanked them for being honest and not taken my vehicle there. - Joel H

  A couple of weeks ago, my husband discovered a leak in his tire the day before we were leaving town. We had never been to Silver Lake before, but he called and they were able to get his truck in the very same day. They fixed the issue quickly and efficiently, provided excellent customer service, and were extremely knowledgeable. We truly appreciated their help and will definitely be back!
