  I recently shipped my Onan generator to your service department for diagnostics. When I spoke with the service supervisor beforehand, I made it clear that I did not want to spend an excessive amount on diagnosing the problem. I was told that while there is a two-hour minimum for diagnostics, if the issue was found in less time I would only be charged for the actual time spent. Shortly after the generator arrived, I received a call saying that a bad coil had been identified as the problem. About 20 minutes later, I received another call informing me that the generator was already running with the new coil installed. Based on that conversation, I expected the diagnostic time to reflect what appeared to be a relatively quick identification of the issue. When I received the bill, I was surprised to see the total exceed $400 for what ultimately turned out to be an $80 part. I understand that some time is required to hook the generator up to fuel and a battery, as well as to disconnect everything after the work is complete. However, being charged one hour and thirty-five minutes to diagnose a bad coil seems excessive given how quickly the issue was reportedly identified and resolved. My concern is not with paying for legitimate labor, but with the amount of diagnostic time billed. Just because up to two hours was authorized does not necessarily mean that amount of time should be used if the problem is found much sooner. I have always thought very highly of your business, until now. When I spoke to the service advisor on the phone and expressed my concerns, he told me it is what it is
