Watched the video but still couldn't figure out the the blow rhythm. Went into the store and asked for assistance. The tech didn't come out to assist, but explained how to breathe. I had to pull into a parking lot because I couldn't figure it out. Called the shop and was treated as a problem. They were going to send a person to help but didn't give me any idea when. I called back and then someone came out after that phone call. At this point the vehicle is demanding a calibration recall for too many trys. The man that came out to help complained about the gas he used to assist us. Very rude! I feel these car stereo places don't like doing these interlock devices but it brings extra money. Customer service is terrible! If they don't honor there lack of explaining how to breathe into the device my boyfriend will have to pay over $40 for calibration. And it showed a violation and we now have to drive back ti the shop to get it reset.

This is the worst device I have ever even heard of. I had my device installed at CarToys in Silverdale, WA on 8/1/2025 and want to be clear that CarToys was great, CarToys is not the problem. This Intoxalock device is simply unsafe and not user friendly. Instead of a standard breathing pattern, you need to exhale for a few seconds, inhale, and then exhale... In my opinion, the device is dangerous for the operator and other drivers on the road. We followed the instructions on the video and we able to start the vehicle, after 4-5 attempts. On the way home, each time the device requested a sample we had to pull over to the side of the road for safety because the car alarm started going off and the horn was honking. Not because of a failure, but because the device would not recognize the breath pattern. I immediately called CarToys after arriving home from the install appointment (30-40 minutes after install) as well as Intoxalock to voice my concern. CarToys instructed me to contact Intoxalock, and I have left several messages for Intoxalock directly with "Christina" at her extension and others. As of today (8/7) I m yet to receive a call back. I have tried calling several times and have tried literally every single option to speak to a human. Eventually, I started looking at other review sites and discovered that most people are experiencing the same thing. I even tried calling an phone number provided by an alleged supervisor in a separate review, but even that number did not work. At this point, I am officially requesting Intoxalock refund every single penny, cover costs for the removal of my advice, and dissolution of any agreements. After several attempts, I was able to reach a supervisor whom was able to assist me with getting the device removed right away, HOWEVER... That person, a supervisor named Ashley, told me verbatim "I need to report up to someone and you will need to pay a $180 fee to break the agreement." When I explained to Ashley I would not be paying that fee and would be happy to explore my legal options while reiterating I was also recording the call, suddenly that fee was no longer required. I am furious I had to go through this!!! Unacceptable. I am going into CarToys first thing in the morning to have this device taken out so I can move forward with my life.

Edit: so I was lied to once again by the company, they set you up for failure do not go through this company Worst place ever, they do not work with you at all, the people are rude and have no idea what they are doing. They do not have any people to talk to that have the current knowledge of how to put information into they system, getting anyone on the phone is a problem. Getting anyone to do there job is a problem. This company is no good...... Find someone else to go through they will overcharge you and lie to you. They are not reliable or trustworthy. Go elsewhere

Frequently Asked Questions About Intoxalock Ignition Interlock

How does an interlock device work?

An ignition interlock device (IID) is a small breathalyzer installed in your vehicle to prevent it from starting if alcohol is detected on your breath. Before driving, you'll blow into the device. If your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) is below the programmed limit, the car starts. Periodic retests occur during your trip to ensure continued compliance. To read more on Intoxalock, you can read our ignition interlock device guide.

What is the cost of an ignition interlock device?

The installation of an ignition interlock device, often called a car breathalyzer, typically costs between $70 and $150. This one-time fee is paid at the start of your lease and covers the service center's labor to install the device in your vehicle. Payment is made directly to the service center at the time of installation. For more on cost breakdowns, you can read our cost of ignition interlock device guide.
