I was promised that they would use our coupon from our attorney for the first month free and then they also said they had a rebate for $200 once the insulation was done. I would just send that in with the invoice that we paid for it. I did all of that and they’re telling me that it’s only a $200 rebate and they did not give me the first month free like they promised and now they said that they’re going to escalate this and send it to a team to review all the phone conversations to verify if I am speaking the truth about the sales representative who promised me the first month free and a $200 rebate so he said I would get three months for free but now we’re only getting two months for free . To me it’s lying and false advertisement

Not sure if this is a review on intoxakock or my service center Car Toys but both have been problematic in the year and a half I've had my device so far. The list of of issues and money unnecessary paid out to intoxalock is too long for a short review. However my most recent experience with car toys is inexcusable. On September 26th 2025 I had to get my device transferred to a new car I purchased due to my previous car being totalled and state law requires me to get my device installed into a different vehicle within 48 hours otherwise my account closes and im in violation. Car Toys doesn't do field work so I was required to get my car towed to them first to get my state required calibration then once again towed back to them to get the device removed a week later after finding out the car was totalled. Hundreds of dollars in towing later I finally got the device installed into my newly purchased vehicle that had just undergone a thorough inspection by Mullinax of Ford, the dealership I've purchased my last two cars from as well with no issue. I went through the pre-service inspection with the Car Toys service member without any issues detected. Upon arrival to pick up my car I was informed that while installing the the camera my windshield was severely cracked! They tried to explain it away as the team member thought it was just dirty but there were actually several little chips in the windshield so that's what caused the 10 inch long crack directly behind the camera. My wife and I were furious but stayed very calm. I was later informed that their corporate office declined to pay for any damages and stated that the crack was a result of pre existing damage even though there was nothing about that on the pre-service inspection of the vehicle signed by both myself and the service member. After that I was informed I could get a slight discount through one of car toys vendors and get a new windshield for $680 witch after visiting their windshield repair vendor turned out to be over $800.... my wife and I have both tried to contact Car Toys corporate office via email and phone and just get automated systems asking to leave a message about our complaint and they will get back to us. However car toys filed for bankruptcy in August of this year and it was finalized in the beginning of October so apparently they have no record of us or our work done over the past year and a half and nobody knows anything or seems to care. So along with the thousands of dollars I've already spent through intoxalock and car toys I now need to buy a new windshield on my newly purchased car. I will say the employees at Car Toys are very friendly and try to work with me but at this point that's not enough to make up for the amount of money all this has cost me. If someone from Car Toys new owners Foss Audio and Tint reads this review I'd appreciate some feedback. Olympia Car Toys, 2018 Toyota C-HR service date 9/26/25 Edit: I revised my review because I was contacted by Intoxalock's customer advocacy department. They were seemingly receptive to my concerns and offered me a form to submit for my windshield damage that will be reviewed for possible reimbursement as well as a $100 credit on my account to be used to pay for future Intoxalock charges. Edit #2 It is now 1/24/26 and after submitting my complete and accurate damage claim form on 10/30/25 I have STILL received no response from the claims department in regards to my damages. The only communication available to reach them is email witch I have tried three times now for updates on the process that was only supposed to take 30 days. Here we are almost 3 months later and nothing. Once again I've paid thousands of dollars to Intoxalock and their service provider Car Toys of Olympia and I will require their services for 8 more years so I don't think it's too much to ask to be treated with respect and address my damages caused BY THEM to my vehicle. Very frustrated and disappointed at this point.

Frequently Asked Questions About Intoxalock Ignition Interlock

How does an interlock device work?

An ignition interlock device (IID) is a small breathalyzer installed in your vehicle to prevent it from starting if alcohol is detected on your breath. Before driving, you'll blow into the device. If your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) is below the programmed limit, the car starts. Periodic retests occur during your trip to ensure continued compliance. To read more on Intoxalock, you can read our ignition interlock device guide.

What is the cost of an ignition interlock device?

The installation of an ignition interlock device, often called a car breathalyzer, typically costs between $70 and $150. This one-time fee is paid at the start of your lease and covers the service center's labor to install the device in your vehicle. Payment is made directly to the service center at the time of installation. For more on cost breakdowns, you can read our cost of ignition interlock device guide.
