Initially, I was trying to keep the business local, however, my insurance agent advised that the local glass shop wasn't in 'network'. The agent sent me the information on the Safelite Auto Glass shop in Kennewick. The shop contacted me through email and text message to setup the appointment. I learned that Safelite comes to the customer's location. The glass technician, Codie, called me when he was arriving in my neighborhood.. and of course, it's raining. We moved the vehicle partially through the roll-up garage door to allow ample room around the sides and front of the vehicle. Once Codie had his apparatus set up it was time to remove the broken windshield. This proved quite different as this was the original equipment, factory installed glass. When it finally came free it fractured the glass further. Codie meticulously scraped the old adhesive away, prepped the new windshield (identical replacement complete with the mirror mount pre-installed) and applied a primer to the vehicle's windshield frame. Codie then applied a thick bead of new adhesive to the back side of the new windshield glass. The apparatus mentioned earlier is equipped with powerful suction cups and allows for a lone technician to maneuver the glass across the hood of the vehicle and gently set it in place. Codie uses protective mats and placemats both inside the vehicle's dash and across the hood. The hardest part of the entire replacement was removing the broken glass. This whole process took Codie slightly over an hour. Before he cleaned up and stowed the apparatus and other tools, he applied painter's tape over the top of the windshield and onto the roof. "Leave the tape on there for about 90 minutes to give the adhesive time to cure. Then y'all can remove the tape", Codie advised. We've driven the vehicle for an hour in the pouring rain. Guess what y'all, NO LEAKS! Giddy up. I'm of the opinion that this is the only way to have vehicle glass replacement done and Safelite Auto Glass is a top notch company. 'Nuff said.
