gave me a lockout for no reason. I let them know that I would be performing maintenance on my car, but they did it anyway. They charged me $75 to unlock it.

Update: I was contacted by a very friendly customer representative who sorted out my issue on install below. Once I have the unit removed I will update this review. I will now be keeping my car hooked up to the trickle charger if I’m not using it. So I had a free installation coupon and clearly stated it to the person who scheduled my install only to be charged $356 when I went to pick up the car. I immediately called Intoxalock to see how this happened and what the resolution would be. They said for me to pay and they would then credit my account for the total cost out of pocket. Called after the weekend to see if there were any updates only to find out that nothing at all had been done. They also informed me they would only credit $100 for the install since that is their company policy. I spoke to a manager twice now and still have no resolution to this issue. I will continue to pursue this as I will not accept paying $356 to have this installed when it should have been free. So that was just the installation aspect. The unit and device itself is another problem all its own. By no means is it easy to get a good test. You need to blow as hard as you can for 3 seconds suck as hard as you can for 3 then blow again for 2. It’s incredibly unsafe to be doing while you drive and it’s beyond me that this is mandated by the DMV. I got the installation on Friday and my car wouldn’t start Sunday afternoon not having driven it one day. Prior to this I had zero issues with my car battery. Nothing that Intoxalock has said has this been true. All I can say is be careful and avoid needing to deal with them in the first place. I look forward to the day when all this is behind me.

Frequently Asked Questions About Intoxalock Ignition Interlock

How does an interlock device work?

An ignition interlock device (IID) is a small breathalyzer installed in your vehicle to prevent it from starting if alcohol is detected on your breath. Before driving, you'll blow into the device. If your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) is below the programmed limit, the car starts. Periodic retests occur during your trip to ensure continued compliance. What is the cost of an ignition interlock device?

The installation of an ignition interlock device, often called a car breathalyzer, typically costs between $70 and $150. This one-time fee is paid at the start of your lease and covers the service center's labor to install the device in your vehicle.
