I’ve always taken a lot of pride in my car—a red VW I’ve owned and cared for—so when I was involved in a minor accident and needed body work, I wanted the job done right. I normally prefer using small local shops, but my insurance company recommended Joe Hudson’s Collision in Winchester, so I gave them a chance. Scheduling was easy. I got an estimate, waited for the parts, dropped the car off, and they arranged my rental. They originally told me the repair would take about a week, then needed a little more time when additional parts were required. That part I completely understood. The problems started when I picked the car up. I was in a hurry, the lot was crowded, and I only did a quick glance before leaving. Within a few miles, a warning popped up about the front radar calibration. I checked the front end and quickly realized there were several issues. I called immediately and was transferred to Gary, who didn’t seem thrilled to hear from me. When I brought the car back to show the problems, I was shocked by what I found and what I was told: • They removed the front radar but never calibrated it afterward. Gary said they only calibrate them if a warning message comes up. Anytime that radar is removed it needs to be calibrated. • A bolt on the mirror housing was left loose, which dented the body. • Rock chips were painted over without doing any bodywork, and it shows. • Dirt is visible in the paint on every panel they touched, including the mirror cap. • You can see sanding scratches where they tried to smooth dirt in the paint and just left it. • The replacement door sounds hollow and wrong when it shuts. I asked about the lack of bodywork on the rock chips, and Gary said insurance wouldn’t pay for it. I would have happily covered that cost myself if anyone had taken the time to call me. Instead, they pushed it through and painted over it. Gary said they would “take care of everything,” but when I asked to leave the car then and there, I was told I’d need to make another appointment and drop it off again, when they had time. After what I saw, I don’t trust them with my car a second time. They collected around $4,000, yet not a single panel was done right, my front radar warning is still on, and the door doesn’t feel safe. I take pride in my car and used to enjoy washing and waxing it. Now I cringe every time I see the sloppy workmanship. If you care about your vehicle, I strongly recommend staying far away from this shop. My experience felt rushed and careless, and I regret trusting them with my car.
