***Do not go to this TireChoice location***
For years, I took my car to this shop when it was under the Treadquarters banner; the team was skilled, dependable, and honest. However, since changing management, this shop has sadly become the exact opposite, and my latest experience was so terrible, I felt compelled to write this review as a warning to anyone considering to bring their car here.
Naively, I made a service appointment hoping (and trusting) the team would solve an issue I was experiencing with my front driver’s side wheel (a knocking sound). Let me recount all the ways everything went south:
Waste of time: I scheduled my appointment for early on a Thursday morning when the shop opened. I dropped off my car around 8 a.m., with only other 2 cars in the lot, including one for the shop manager. Given the visibly light amount of other service requests, I figured I would hear something within a few hours. With no word by 3 p.m. that afternoon, I called asking what was going on, and they had not even looked at my car yet. Then, randomly at 3:30 p.m., I was called back from the manager saying that the car seemed fine. I proceeded to pick up my car, and lo and behold, the same issue (a knocking sound) was there. Frustrated and busy with other work obligations, I had no choice but to rely on my car as-is the next couple days. But an entire business day was wasted.
Poor service: Out of desperation—and with most other shops in town closed or filled to capacity—I returned on Sunday to see if they could actually make the repair. This time I decided to stay in person too, in case that made any difference. After waiting about an hour, two mechanics asked what the exact problem was, and I explained the sound coming from the front driver’s side tire. They inspected the car on a lift and took it for a test ride, before determining that the “CV axle was bad.” Yet, they needed another repair guy (Stephen, I believe?) to actually address the issue and he was not in that day. The shop manager (Michael) then took me aside saying how I could drive on the wheel as-is, but it would need to be repaired at some point. Faced with little choice, I again had to leave with the same knocking sound.
Dishonesty: Despite terrible weather and the need to drive to DC for work, my car somehow made it in one piece, although the same knocking sound had gotten noticeably worse. I took my car to a trusted local shop in Northern Virginia who promptly told me the issue was related to the lower control arm, not the CV axle at all. I was somewhat perplexed because I had gotten the lower control arm fixed by the same TireChoice location in Williamsburg in Fall 2024. Typically, this major repair (costing over $1,000) would be covered by warranty, so I called TireChoice and they explained that I needed to call AutoZone (where they had purchased the parts) to understand the warranty coverage. I then called AutoZone, who said that this was in fact the responsibility of TireChoice and that I was “getting the run-around.” So, I called back TireChoice who said that there would be no warranty, although they “would try to contact a regional manager” to investigate the issue. I have received no further updates.
At best, the team at this location is incompetent and uses sub-par parts. At worst, they are being intentionally deceitful and manipulative. Again, it’s a shame since I had previously taken my car here for years when it was run by a reliable and honest service team, but times have clearly changed. I will be telling all my friends and contacts to never come to this location. If you value your time, money, and sanity, I highly recommend you avoid it too. I’m sure TireChoice will offer some type of platitude and generic response here.
I repeat: ***Do not go to this TireChoice location***
