- DWDavid WrightFeb 11, 20261.0I recently went to Advance Auto Parts to have my car battery replaced. After the employee installed the new battery, the car started and I was able to drive home. However, shortly after that, my car would no longer start at all. I had to pay to have it towed to a mechanic because I was concerned the issue might be the starter or alternator. To my surprise, it was neither. My mechanic thoroughly inspected the vehicle and informed me that the battery installation had been done incorrectly in multiple ways. In his words, “in plain English, they completely botched it.” The battery had to be properly reinstalled, and once corrected, my car started and has worked fine ever since. This situation cost me unnecessary stress, time, and money for towing and diagnostics — all because of a service that should have been straightforward. If Advance Auto Parts is going to offer battery installation as a service, employees need to be properly trained to perform it correctly and safely. I would strongly encourage other customers to double-check work done on their vehicles or consider having installations handled by another vendor. My experience was extremely frustrating, and I hope this review helps prevent someone else from going through the same ordeal.

Typically a car battery will last 2-5 years, with premium batteries lasting 5-6 years. But you should replace it every 4 years for safe measures if you want to avoid any unwanted problems.
What are the signs of a bad car battery?
Signs of a bad car battery can range from the need for frequent jump starts, slow to start, cranks or clicks but won't start, dash lights work but the vehicle won't start, etc.

Brakes work by using friction to turn kinetic energy into heat. There are two designs: drum brakes (older), and disc brakes (newer). Both use hydraulic pressure to move a piston outward. In disc brakes, the piston is located inside a caliper that houses brake pads and fits over the rotor. The friction lining on the pads makes contact with the rotor to slow the vehicle. In drum brakes, the piston moves two curved shoes lined with friction material against the inside of the brake drum.
