As per Enterprise policy, if the reserved vehicle class is unavailable at the time of rental, the customer should be upgraded at no additional cost. The clerk assisting me, Emily, informed me that only full-size vehicles were available, and I agreed to take one. However, she then told me that I needed to go into my app and change my reservation to a full-size vehicle because that was all they had. I explained that Enterprise’s policy is to provide a complimentary upgrade when the reserved class is unavailable. Emily was clearly aware of this policy, yet she insisted I change my reservation anyway, stating that “it’s a pride thing” and that since I was aware of the situation, I should make the change myself. I found this remark offensive and inappropriate. It made me feel as though I did not deserve a courtesy upgrade that is standard policy, particularly as a loyal Platinum customer. After this exchange, Emily’s demeanor noticeably changed, she appeared upset and displayed an attitude for the remainder of the interaction, despite the fact that I was correct about the policy. This interaction was unprofessional and uncomfortable, and it significantly impacted what should have been a routine rental experience. As a frequent Enterprise customer, I found this treatment disturbing and disappointing.
