I find it very troubling to know that a company will destroy someone’s vehicle, and in turn their livelihood, as well as close the claim while never having actually talked to the owner of the vehicle.
My partner and I took our vehicle in for a transmission fluid change, and due to Valvoline leaving the transmission fluid half a quart low and lying about their fluid being equivalent to Nissan OEM, that vehicle now needs a new transmission. An $8,000 repair, to replace the CVT transmission, quoted by two different Nissan dealerships.
When my partner spoke to corporate about the issue caused by their employees, they gave two options, either WE pay for them to get samples of the fluid, or we take them to court. The reason that the fluid samples needed to be paid for is because WE did not/do not trust Valvoline to do an unbiased test, or to not tamper with the fluids. Valvoline was trying to send us back to the location that ruined the transmission, and they wanted to take another 2-3oz of fluid out— which would then have left us catastrophically low on fluid. Negligence… that’s what that is, to knowingly remove more fluid to the transmission that they have already damaged, and they expect that to not cause more damage? So we declined, and their area manager suggested we take the vehicle to a Nissan dealership to properly get the samples and to make sure that there would be no extra damage caused to our vehicle, which we agreed to. Being that my partner is disabled, they explained to corporate that paying for that would be very difficult seeing as they have destroyed my way of getting around to run my business. Valvoline refused to pay for anything until there was “proof” that they had caused the issue. Since we have not had a problem with anything on this vehicle prior to this transmission fluid change, and have detailed records of everything (including recordings of their employees not having the proper tools and used a “makeshift dipstick”) that should have been proof enough.
Regardless, my partner and I went to the appointment that Valvoline had scheduled, got the samples of the fluid pulled, had to do a full fluid change again, because you have to drop the pan to take the sample PROPERLY, and paid for the appointment as well. The Valvoline rep that scheduled the appointment never showed up, and they never got the samples. We paid to send the samples out to an independent lab for testing, and found that the fluid Valvoline uses is acidic compared to the Nissan OEM, and that the chemical breakdown is significantly different from that of the OEM. Therefore this issue was absolutely caused by Valvoline using non-equivalent fluids and having left the transmission fluid low, causing the fluid to burn and the transmission as a whole to fail.
To this day, I still have not personally talked to anyone at Valvoline Corporate, no one has attempted to contact me, and I am the owner of the vehicle. When my partner got a reply to the review they had written, Valvoline outright lied, saying that the media rep had found the claim and sent information in to the claims department. When my partner called the claims department, there was no information about what the media person said in the review, and the claim was still closed. At this point, Valvoline has told us multiple times to take them to court, so it looks like that is what we will do.
