The experience started off great. I booked through Expedia. I was picked up at the airport and dropped off sixt, the staff was extremely friendly and easy to deal with. I was upsold on the extra insurance which was “bumper to bumper.” I was in the US for my wife’s surgery and spent a lot of time taking her back and forth to appointments from our air bnb. (Approx 7 minutes away and I waited in the vehicle during her appointments.) Everything seemed great until almost a month after the vehicle was returned, I received an email saying there was $1800 in damage. ($2500 CAD.) it wasn’t until I read the reviews later that I found out that apparently there’s an app to record the “damage” that has previously happened to the vehicle. There are minor scratches the vehicle that were there when we received the vehicle that could easily be buffed out thatI’m being charged excessively for. I’ve tried calling and emailing to dispute these charges and my calls get put on hold until the call ends and emails are not responded to. I’ve rented numerous vehicles in the last 10 years and have never had such a poor experience. I see the owner frequently replies to reviews but it’s impossible to get a hold of anyone to dispute this. I would assume they rent their vehicles at such a low rate because they make up their revenue in ripping their customers off. I will never use sixt again and I hope anyone that reads this makes the wise choice of using another rental company. Just to add salt to the wound, paid for the vehicle through Expedia and was also charged by sixt. I wish I could give 0/5 stars

Had a pretty good rental experience overall. Car was great. Prices were great. The location was great.
But unfortunately that went downhill. When I got into my car it wasn't all the way full, like 7/8. I told the guy and he said no worries just return it like you got it. So I did.
Then I get an invoice with an added $23.98 charge for full. Invoice states it was returned on 7/8.
I called customer service and this is where SIXT's future with me took a horrible turn for the worse. All the excuses why they couldn't refund my fuel charge; the branch closed the receipt (whatever that means), I didn't have proof, etc. Finally one of the CSRs said they were going to do the refund then put me on hold for 15 mins and never came back. Then another CSR told me she couldn't do the refund and that I need to call the branch, but they have no number. Just all around lies and unprofessionalism. This is all not even mentioning that I called several times in between these CSR's and when the call finally connected to somebody they just hung up.
I finally got a manager, after being told by two other CSR's there were no managers, and she processed the refund. But, that customer service experience is inexcusable and not something Im willing to deal with ever again. I wish I could rate their customer service ZERO stars.

Booked thru expedia for a one way rental to California, when I got to Sixth to pickup the car, they told me I have to drop it off back in Salt lake. I ask if they can cancell it for me and they told me they can but not sure if expedia will refund me. Then we tried to booked a rental with them directly but if was too expensive (they charging 200$+ for one way rental, I was able to booked for 91$ via enterprise). So when I have a chance I called expedia to refund me, and they say they will ask sixth about it, and today they got back to me and said that sixth has strick policy for refund. Guys on counter dont nkow what they are saying, just go directly to Salt lake airport and theres a lot of hassle free to choose from

Horrible. I wish I had read all of these reviews. We arrived to pick up the car, but I had left my ID at home. I was traveling with my passport instead. I thought no big deal since I had done the pre-check in with my ID prior to flying out 2 days later. We got there and they asked for my ID, I gave them my passport and they told me they couldn't accept it because they had to verify my ID... what was the point of the pre-check? Again, no big deal, my husband had his ID and I did list him as a driver. Nope. They wouldn't allow it. At a loss, we asked to cancel the reservation and then redo it under his name. But doing so made the price double! We said no thank you! They assured me I would be getting a refund instead. Trusting this I said OK and we went over to Alamo. Well, that was 10/18 we are now on 11/6 and still no refund. They will not talk to me because I made the reservation through Expedia. However, when Expedia tries, they are told over and over again that someone from SIXT will get back to them. It went from 72 hours to 5-7 business day to nothing at all. I am so mad. I had to call and report the fraud to my bank. Please read all the comments and reviews. This company really is a scam.

If you rent from Sixt and they try to bill/invoice you for minor damage (such as a scratch) after returning the car, DO NOT pay it. This happened to me and many other reviewers here, and it's a scam. There's a good chance you didn't cause the damage, but even if you did, these hucksters will try to bill you 10x the actual repair cost. And if you pay it or make a claim with your own car insurance or credit card insurance, Sixt will take the money and NOT repair the car. It's a known scheme that falls in a legal gray area, and unfortunately even supposedly reputable car rental companies like Sixt pull this kind of crap.
Don't be dishonest, but DO NOT let them intimidate you with claims of damage that you know you didn't cause or that are clearly beyond any reasonable charge. Just send a written response by email or letter to the contact point on the invoice and state clearly that you do not accept liability. Demand documentation from them: before/after photos of the vehicle proving damage, copies of vehicle reports, a repair invoice (NOT an estimate, etc.). State that you will not accept responsibility or agree to any payment until they send you that documentation, and set a reasonable deadline for them to respond. If they don't respond, send 1 final email reiterating your previous communication.
In all likelihood, they will not contact you again because they know they have a flimsy case that wouldn't stand up to legal scrutiny. They're just looking to make a quick buck from people that just pay up or file claims with their insurance. Fight back if you know you did nothing wrong.
UPDATE: After using the above strategy to fight back, Sixt sent me this email: "We wanted to let you know that after reviewing the matter once again, we have decided not to pursue a claim for compensation against you. Our claim for the damage case has therefore been cancelled." Hope this helps others that the scammers at Sixt try to rip off!
And to the Sixt representative that will shortly reply to this with platitudes about being sorry, saying you'll investigate, etc.: Save it. You've lost me as a customer, and I am sharing my experience with family/friends whenever the topic of renting cars comes up. You're using tactics that are a long-term detriment to your business, and you should be ashamed for your lack of integrity.
