They really need a ZERO star option, or even negative stars, because this company and device is THE WORST!!! I wouldn’t recommend this company to my worst enemy. How they are still allowed to operate is beyond me, it’s so unbelievably crooked. This device will CONSTANTLY drain your car battery, NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO(even using the power save mode, and wrapping the handheld in a towel when it’s cold), and they will charge you for it. Better keep a constant eye on your account, because they will charge you and you won’t even know about it, or what it was for. The device also causes all sorts of electrical problems with your car. If you have power locks, it will unlock your car doors. My windows won’t roll down anymore. Their customer service is an absolute joke. You can barely understand them, and they’re super rude. They will tell you it’s your fault and this is what you get because you were ordered to install the device. They do not care to help you in any way. STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!!!!!!! You’ll regret it if you don’t, and that’s a guarantee.

**There was some issues with appointment time( the service center opened up 1hr after my assigned install time). Getting a hold of customer services, was a bit difficult with Intoxalock's automated system. I had to call as a new customer, to get thru to talk to a real person to resolve scheduling issues. In the end, it all worked out. Thanks

I've already paid $500 in a two weeks time for this device. Absolutely horrible one of the worst things I've ever had to do in relation to driving in my life. Unbelievable on a 30 minute drive at 6:00 a.m. going to work, I had to take five different folling breathalyzers before I got there. It always goes off right at the worst time when your in traffic and there's nowhere to pull over. Completely disgusted. I've been sober for 6 months I don't even drink. Who would be drinking at 6:00 a.m. on their way to work. It makes me not even want to drive. Beware of pushy representatives. Hidden charges and overcharging! Other companies are much easier to deal with and much cheaper! I'm not able to adjust anything on their app. I have not been able to get a hold of Representative. Would not recommend this company to anybody!

Darrell was great explained the process, what's expected. Every dealership installation vary hundreds of dollars with notice or a phone call. But the joy got completely and done professional. The state passed a new law starting by 08/2024 every interlock device will be installed with a camera viewing all the interior of vechile.
Frequently Asked Questions About Intoxalock Ignition Interlock
How does an interlock device work?
An ignition interlock device (IID) is a small breathalyzer installed in your vehicle to prevent it from starting if alcohol is detected on your breath. Before driving, you'll blow into the device. If your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) is below the programmed limit, the car starts. Periodic retests occur during your trip to ensure continued compliance. To read more on Intoxalock, you can read our ignition interlock device guide.
What is the cost of an ignition interlock device?
The installation of an ignition interlock device, often called a car breathalyzer, typically costs between $70 and $150. This one-time fee is paid at the start of your lease and covers the service center's labor to install the device in your vehicle. Payment is made directly to the service center at the time of installation. For more on cost breakdowns, you can read our cost of ignition interlock device guide.
How do I use my interlock device?
Using an IID is simple. To start your vehicle, blow into the device as directed. If the device detects no alcohol, your car will start. You may be prompted for "rolling retests" while driving, where you’ll blow into the device again to confirm compliance. How-to videos are also available on the Intoxalock mobile app.
Where do I get an ignition interlock device?
Ignition interlock devices can be installed at certified service centers nationwide. Intoxalock offers a convenient network of locations and helps you schedule an installation appointment near you. Visit our Intoxalock locations page or call us to find the nearest service center and begin the installation process.
How long will my installation take?
Installing an ignition interlock device typically takes 1-2 hours, depending on your vehicle type. Certified technicians ensure the device is properly installed and provide you with training on how to use it. Contact Intoxalock for an appointment and an accurate time estimate for your installation.
What happens if I fail a breath test on my ignition interlock device?
If you fail a breath test, your vehicle will not start, and the device will log the event. Depending on your state’s regulations, multiple failed tests may trigger additional penalties, such as lockouts or reporting to your monitoring authority. Intoxalock devices allow you to retest after a short wait if alcohol is no longer detected. Always follow your state’s guidelines to remain compliant.
Can I install an ignition interlock device in a vehicle I don’t own?
Yes, in most cases, you can install an ignition interlock device in a vehicle you regularly drive, even if you’re not the registered owner. However, the vehicle owner must provide consent for the installation. Intoxalock works with you and the owner to ensure compliance with state regulations and the successful setup of the device.
What should I do if my ignition interlock device locks me out?
If your ignition interlock device locks you out, it’s usually due to missed tests, failed tests, or state-specific requirements. Intoxalock offers a simple lockout override process in most cases to help you get back on the road quickly. Contact Intoxalock customer support for assistance and to understand the steps needed to resolve the issue.
