- JKJoseph KajaJun 26, 20262.0Didn't give 1 star because the cashier and floor associate were very pleasant and helpful. When I tried to do an exchange for a like part bought at a different Advance (their web site said it would work) the manager refused. I had the original receipt/ box and the part was uninstalled (it was wrong so wouldn't have fit anyways). He pointed to a return policy sign that said right on it ANY part may be returned or exchanged, and said since it was an electrical part, he refused to exchange it (no mention of electrical parts even on the sign). I will not be returning to this location, and if my local advance doesn't have it, there's plenty of other competitors I can go to.

I went there to return a part that didn't fit my vehicle and was told they couldn't process the refund because it was purchased at another location. After driving back to the original store, I was informed that they could have handled the refund after all. I wasted an extra trip because of incorrect information and a lack of customer service. Very frustrating experience.

HOW DO BRAKES WORK?

Brakes work by using friction to turn kinetic energy into heat. There are two designs: drum brakes (older), and disc brakes (newer). Both use hydraulic pressure to move a piston outward. In disc brakes, the piston is located inside a caliper that houses brake pads and fits over the rotor. The friction lining on the pads makes contact with the rotor to slow the vehicle. In drum brakes, the piston moves two curved shoes lined with friction material against the inside of the brake drum.
