Battery died across the street from the store. So conveniently got the battery, but was so thankful they loaned me some tools to swap out the old battery.

Poly C yells at women in front of children when his ego is bruised because he can’t replace a battery in a key fob. When I asked for an incidental card IN CASE it is in fact broken, he began yelling at me saying he didn’t break it. My child was present the entire time, this man was shaking and having a meltdown. Brett H. Stood by silently letting it happen… won’t be returning and will tell everyone about this experience. Have been here before with good service but clearly the staff has gone to hell. I’ve got this exact key fob replaced at this store within five minutes from another person.
Poly C. Was struggling with my key, told me that it was not supposed to open the way that he opened it, and when I asked for a card, he flipped out as if I accused him of breaking it maliciously.
Why am I as a customer having to remain composed in front of my child and telling Poly C to take a walk and separate himself from me if he’s going to continue yelling at me?

I wanted to share a disappointing experience I had today at the Maple Valley AutoZone.
I stopped in to have the battery changed in my key fob, something I’ve had done at this location quickly and without issue in the past. Today I was assisted by Poly C. During the process, he opened the face of my key in a way that he later acknowledged it was not supposed to be opened. After approximately 15–20 minutes of looking at the key and watching videos trying to figure out how to access the battery, he was ultimately unable to replace it.
At that point, I was understandably concerned that my key may have been damaged. I calmly mentioned to the manager, Bret Haley, that I would like an incident report/card documenting what happened in case I later discovered there was damage.
What bothered me far more than the key itself was how the situation was handled afterward. Poly became visibly upset and began raising his voice and shouting at me simply because I expressed concern that the key may have been damaged. I had my young child with me, and the interaction became uncomfortable enough that I was physically shaking. Meanwhile, the manager stood by and did not intervene or address the way I was being spoken to.
Poly did put the key back together, and thankfully it appears to still be functioning at this time. I’m now trying to find another shop that can safely replace the battery.
Mistakes happen, and if the key had been accidentally damaged while someone was genuinely trying to help me, I could understand that. What I cannot understand is a customer being yelled at for calmly asking that a potential incident be documented especially with a child standing there watching the interaction.
I’ve had positive experiences at this location before, which is why today was so disappointing. Regardless of whether my key ultimately turns out to be damaged, the way this situation was handled was extremely unprofessional and not how any customer should be treated.
I am a manager myself, and dealing with guest complaints and frustrated customers is part of my job. I understand that mistakes happen, employees get overwhelmed, and customers sometimes raise concerns that we may not agree with. But professionalism means being able to handle those situations without losing your composure. I found it especially disappointing that I was able to remain composed while being yelled at, with my child beside me, while a man nearly twice my age could not maintain that same level of composure over what should have been a very small and easily resolved situation.
