  I needed a car to get from the area to the airport so I rented a car from Enterprise for the one-way trip. It was all easy-peasy on-line. At the appointed time, I arrived and the person inside was prompt, efficient, friendly and great customer support. Took no time and he walked me around the before handing me the keys and said "it's down a quarter of a tank so you don't have to fill it up all the way." That should have been an immediate red flag. I went to the first stop sign, looked down and it was WAY closer to half than a quarter. Here I am with gas prices sky-rocketing due to the Iran conflict and I'm stuck with a quarter tank of someone else's rental on me. If that wasn't bad enough the entire inside of the vehicle had a STRONG chemical mask smell going on. You know the one, where they poor the masking scent on and you feel like you are in Hopewell as they flush the tanks. Later that evening when the surface smell went away it was obvious that it was rented for a long duration by a HEAVILY smoker. Not only was I on the hook for the missing gas but now where were we going to be on the blame game. I'll try them again, but I guarantee that I will NOT take possession of the car until it's filled and cleaned. Now I know why the guy was sitting in the waiting area while I got my car immediately.

  When they have a car for your reservation, the staff are very helpful and have good customer service skills. You just need to make your reservation at least a month out to ensure that they will have inventory on site.

  Today was extremely disappointing as we drove an hour to pick up a vehicle that had been reserved on the app for our daughter. Ten minutes prior to arrival and reservation time , we received a call from Peter who stated that they did not have the vehicle available and asked if an Altima would suffice. We explained that, unfortunately it would not suit our needs and that we live on a farm and a mile back in the woods so the driveway would be a concern for a nissan Altima, It's a very Bumpy driveway, which is why we had requested an SUV. He explained that they did not have one. And my daughter told him (on speakerphone) that would have been nice to know prior to us driving an hour, and he told us that there's nothing he can do about that because he does not maintain the website or the app. My daughter said we do need an SUV please get something figured out we are only 10 minutes away. We were then disconnected and then Peter immediately called back and told us he was canceling the reservation. There was no sincerity, flexibility or indication of customer service from Peter. I have used Enterprise so many times over the years as I traveled nationally for work so I was very surprised by the behavior. We then turned around, contacted Mechanicsville Enterprise, who happily accommodated as well as placed us on hold while they checked the lot and reservations to ensure there would be a vehicle waiting if we drove the 45 minutes to them. Mechanicsville will consistently receive our future business!
