I am extremely disappointed with the service I received at this AutoZone.
I came in to purchase a new battery and relied on the employee’s expertise to ensure I bought the correct one. Initially, he told me I needed one battery size. About 20 minutes into the installation, he realized he had made a mistake and informed me I actually needed a different size. I then had to go back into the store, exchange the battery, and purchase the correct one based on his recommendation.
After that, I waited outside for an hour while he attempted to install the battery. During the installation, it became apparent that he was having difficulty. At one point, another associate had to come outside to assist him. Despite the assistance, the installation was still not completed correctly.
Approximately 10 minutes after leaving AutoZone, my vehicle would not start. This was the first indication that the battery had not been properly installed. I became stranded and had to arrange for assistance. When the tow truck arrived later that day, the driver inspected the battery and found that the battery terminals had not been properly tightened. Once the connections were tightened, the vehicle started, confirming that the installation had not been completed correctly.
I immediately called the store for assistance. The employee recognized who I was from the earlier battery installation, apologized, and told me I would hear from the manager the following day. However, I was also told he doubted the manager would be available that evening, leaving me stranded with no immediate support.
The following day, I visited a different AutoZone to have the installation checked. A young lady inspected the battery, properly secured it in less than a minute, and I have not experienced a single issue with my vehicle since then. That alone confirmed that the original installation had not been done correctly.
I understand that mistakes happen, but this situation went far beyond a simple mistake. I was sold the wrong battery based on the employee’s recommendation, waited over an hour for the installation, became stranded only minutes after leaving the store because the battery had not been properly secured, and had to rely on a tow truck before ultimately having another AutoZone correct the problem in about 60 seconds.
I hope management takes this experience seriously and ensures employees receive the training necessary to perform battery installations correctly. Customers should be able to trust that when they leave after having a battery installed, their vehicle is safe, secure, and ready to drive.
