I’m impressed how friendly both Joy and Christina are up front. They have always been exceptional in their customer service towards me and have been very informative helping me find exactly what I need for my vehicle. I can tell they care and that means a lot to me.
Also, I’m grateful I found a mechanic I can trust in Michael. Tire Discounters will always be my first choice in Salem. Great service and great prices, thank you!

This place is great. It was just a few minutes from closing time and I just had a blowout on the interstate. I stopped by here because the place I went to first didn’t seem like they wanted my business. The people here were very friendly and helped me in my emergency situation because I was trying to get my family by to Birmingham, Alabama. They took extra time to make sure we were safe and taken care off. I definitely give them a 5 star rating!!!

I have been a loyal Tire Discounters customer in Salem, Virginia, for five years, and I have trusted this location with my vehicles and their care. Unfortunately, after what happened today, that trust is completely gone.
I got a flat tire while driving home from North Carolina yesterday. Because of my five years of positive experiences with this location, I specifically chose to bring my vehicle here this morning. I was told the tire could be repaired and that the vehicle should be ready within about an hour.
As that hour passed, my wife checked on the status because she had a meeting. She was then told that two of the other tires had tread so low that they would not pass inspection. Based on that information, she agreed to have those two tires replaced in addition to the flat.
When we came back to pick up the vehicle, we were shocked to find a bill for roughly $900 for three tires. We were then told that they had actually replaced all four tires, even though we had never authorized replacing the fourth tire.
What made this even more concerning was being told that none of the four tires would have passed inspection because the tread was supposedly too low. That simply does not match our experience. The vehicle had been serviced at this same location less than a month ago for an oil change. At that time, we were told the only thing that would soon need attention was the brakes, and that they could likely wait until the next oil change. Nothing was mentioned about all four tires having dangerously low tread.
I personally inspected the tire that had gone flat when I removed it. The tread was clearly not worn down to the point of being bald. I was therefore extremely surprised to be told that all four tires supposedly had tread so low that they would not pass inspection.
At that point, it felt less like an honest recommendation and more like an attempt to sell additional tires that we had not requested. The difference between authorizing three tires and having four replaced without our authorization is significant.
There was also a noticeable change in management. Al, the previous manager, had always provided excellent customer service and made us feel like he genuinely cared about taking care of customers. He is no longer at this location. The new manager told us that she had walked into a “shit show” that morning and had not even known she was being sent to this store. The morning was clearly chaotic, but that does not excuse the lack of communication or the unauthorized work.
After five years of loyalty, it is extremely disappointing to leave feeling that we were not treated honestly or fairly. The combination of the communication problems, replacing a tire we did not authorize, and the explanation that all four tires supposedly had dangerously low tread has completely changed my opinion of this location.
I would not recommend the Salem Tire Discounters at this point. If you have been a longtime customer here, I would encourage you to pay very close attention to what you are being told, what work you authorize, and what ultimately appears on your bill.
