I went for a state inspection and oil change. I had made the appointment a week in advance, and arrived 15 minutes early at 10:15. I sat in the waiting area then at 12:30 the truck had not even been moved into a bay. No one came to say there was a hold up or sorry it's taking so long etc. I'm like everyone else I don't have time to waste or time for poor customer service. I told the man at the counter that I needed my keys he returned with them just handed to not saying a word. So needless to within in an hour after I left I had the inspection and oil changed at another business. Needless to say that was my first time to have them take care of the truck and the last.

My family and I have been customers for years and within the last few years since Crystal left we began to notice a change with the business. Staff seems less personable and less willing to answer questions, we would bring a vehicle in for an oil change or something simple and front desk staff would tell us there were multiple other issues and the repairs were often costly. On several occasions I took my vehicle somewhere else to get a second opinion and the shops I would take it to could find no such issue existing. My family and I have since felt they have become hard to trust and overly expensive. We no longer use Blue ridge unfortunately.

I brough my Subaru 2002 WRX to have the AC inspected. The people over at Kelly Auto works had been trying to fix my AC, over the previous year they had replaced the compressor then it died 6 months later, so they replaced it again. When I got the car back the AC was working but was weak. As I drove it home it got weaker and weaker. So out of frustration I brought it to Blue Ridge Auto here for them to look at.. They charged me 375 dollars to inspect and replace the coolant. They didn't say anything else to me about it, they tested the temp and said it was at 45F, and they put a dye in the coolant that's all. I got in the car and didn't seem cool enough. I drove it around for about an hour and it didn't work anymore.. I brought it back to Blue Ridge and they looked for dye leaking and said there was leak under the compressor shaft, which was just replaced. So, I took my car back to Kelly Auto, with Blue Ridge's charge receipt. When Kelly Auto got the car, they found the AC was working, coolant was also full. So, they called me to ask how I noticed the problem.. I told them after driving for 50 minutes it stopped working. So, they drove it around and noticed the temp rising as they did. They traced the problem to an expansion valve that's found in the dashboard of the WRX, and they replaced it, now my AC works. What gets me is that Blue Ridge didn't tell me the coolant was full, I had assumed it leaked out so I was afraid to run the AC out of fear of burning out the pump. I paid blue ridge to inspect the AC and they did nothing to help me understand the problem. They should have told me the coolant was full, that if it was working when they got it or not. Not helpful at all. They told me the charge 175 an hour, they charge me 75 for coolant, and 300 for their labor. I wonder what they did for that 1.5 hours to inspect the AC. So, turns out to be a waist of money.

VP, Josh, challenged me to a fistfight. You read that right. Shop was asked to work on 2016 Nissan Versa which would not start after having bad gas put in. Shop “diagnosed” and said it was out of time only on cylinder two and had a bent valve (found without removing the head). Never looked at anything relating to gas. Offered options between $3500-$9500 to "fix", low being new head with correct timing chain, high being new engine, this was “recommended given the mileage on the vehicle”; car has 53K miles. Spoke to Richard at Roanoke shop and told him you cannot jump timing on one cylinder, it’s all or none, and you cannot know if there is a bent valve without removing head. He became upset at my knowledge. I asked for engine codes; he said he could not provide them as they are sent to Salem office and only a few people have access. Car was towed home after being lied to. Called Richard; told him engine was missing bolts, spark plugs were in air box, and air filter was sitting on battery. Richard offered to order bolts then hung up. Called Salem; Ben said I would get a call from company VP Josh when he returned from vacation Monday (this was Friday). No call on Monday. Called Tuesday and was told Josh was not available. Asked for codes; tech on phone said “I can't get those to you now; they’re upstairs.” Asked if he could call someone to get them: “That’s above my pay grade!”. Upset, told him I would wait for him to find a way to get codes; he said he would try. Josh appeared and got on phone asking what the issue was. Told him Richard clearly lied- timing is all-or-none- and that he couldn’t know if valve was bent having not removed head. He admitted it was not true about timing, but never apologized about the lie. I mentioned missing bolts, engine being apart, and $280 bill from one hour of diagnostic at $178/hour. Josh said he would call back after speaking to Richard. He called back about three hours later; said he talked to Richard and they had found low compression on cylinder two and assumed it was a bent valve. He again said timing issue made no sense. I asked about the bill: “We did one hour diagnostic and gave a break so it was $156.” I asked about remaining $122: “We put in a spark plug to test compression which is $25, and some fuel to get it started,” meaning they charged $100 for four gallons of fuel. When asked why the gas was put in when they said they didn’t look at the fuel issue, he asked what would make me happy. I wanted the money back and an apology. Josh said he would give the money back, but no apology. I pushed again for an apology; “Not necessary." I said “I want an apology for him lying! You know that timing being bad on one cylinder isn’t true;” he agreed. I said “Then he lied because he knowingly said something that is false.” Josh: “I wouldn’t call it a lie, I would call it ridiculous.” I asked him to man up and apologize; he said this: “Tell you what: if you want to make it this big of an issue, then we can take it to the next level. We can take it outside. You give me a time and place! Don’t write checks your butt can’t cash!” I said I would come to him. Josh: "I'm waiting!" I went to the shop and asked him if he was ready, went outside and he backed down. I asked again for an apology; nothing. Terrible service, worse people. STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS! I can’t do a 0 or negative, but consider this -10000. EDIT: In re: owner’s response, video added to show initial moments of interaction between myself and Josh, including him backing down outside: Me: You ready to do this? J: What's that? Me: You challenged me to a fistfight. J: Ah yeah I said it. Yeah. We can do that. It’s fine. Me: You want to do it in front of your employees? Josh: It don't matter to me! We go outside; he does not deny starting issue. Longer version includes Josh telling shop workers he wanted to escalate. Full versions and audio will be placed on Drive.

I recently took my 2007 trailblazer in for a leak. I thought it was a transmission leak. They didn’t find it. I told them that something was leaking and that there has to be something wet underneath since it left a 3 foot puddle at work the day before. $183 later ($175 an hour for labor plus tax) and they told me that the radiator failed. They gave me a quote of $1001 plus another $220 for a “required” coolant flush. They said that “the book” calls for 3.5 hours of labor at $175 an hour plus what must be the most expensive Chevy radiator presumably made of rare earth elements and blessed by a Monk high in the Himalayan mountains. Out of curiosity, I summoned the google overloads and inquired of them how many hours “the book” actually lists this repair to take. To my horror Chilton, Mitchel 1 and ALLDATA estimated the job at 2.3 to 2.8 hours. They did a state inspection while it was there. Did you know it take $35 of labor to change out a license plate bulb? I didn’t. I picked up my trailblazer, went to advance auto parts next door, bought a radiator, 50/50 mix and some atf and went to my driveway. It turned out that Blue ridge was right, it took ME 3.5 hours to get the job done. Only difference is I did it on my driveway with the wrong tools, no lift, very little experience but for $250. To further sate my curiosity, I called 2 other garages in Salem. I was quoted $600 and $715. Go anywhere else, these guys will rob you blind if you are not paying attention. When I picked up my trailblazer, they offered to change the spark plugs for $550. They offered this with a straight face BTW.
