  My rental experience was wonderful. The guys I encountered at the rental lot were very helpful and nice. The vehicle was clean and comfortable. I will definitely use Enterprise again.

  I recently attempted to rent a vehicle from the Martinsville Enterprise location for an out-of-state trip using my debit card. I was informed by the manager that because I live out of state — despite only being about 20 minutes away across the state line — a credit card would be required. While inconvenient, I understood the policy and had no issue adjusting plans. My friend, who lives locally in Virginia and had a valid credit card, offered to rent the vehicle instead. However, the manager declined the rental, stating it was considered too much of a “risk” based on prior experiences. This decision was frustrating because the transaction itself would have been no different than any standard rental agreement, aside from my out-of-state address. What made the situation more disappointing was the lack of consideration for the actual circumstances. I regularly work in Virginia, have family in Virginia, and frequently travel through the area. I have also rented through Enterprise multiple times in the past without issue or any history of fraud, damage, or policy violations. I’ve consistently used a debit card because I prefer to only spend money I actually have available. Ultimately, I had to escalate the issue to the manager’s supervisor because this rental was critical to a short beach trip we had planned, and this was the only available vehicle within a reasonable driving distance. After reading reviews from other customers, it appears this may not be an isolated issue. I understand that rental policies exist for a reason and that risk management is part of the business. However, the interaction felt less like a manager using reasonable judgment and more like someone rigidly following assumptions without evaluating the customer in front of them. Unfortunately, experiences like this do not reflect well on Enterprise as a company, especially for returning customers with a positive rental history.
