I drove to this Advance store early in the morning. The employee present (I'll call him Mr. A) brought out his code reader and said there was low voltage. Looking at the battery, he personally helped me scrape off the corrosion. It helped, but was not enough. I purchased a new battery and he installed it. While he worked, we talked a little about our respective experiences in the army. His help saved me time and an expensive visit to the mechanic. It was an excellent experience.

Signs of a bad car battery can range from the need for frequent jump starts, slow to start, cranks or clicks but won't start, dash lights work but the vehicle won't start, etc.

Brakes work by using friction to turn kinetic energy into heat. There are two designs: drum brakes (older), and disc brakes (newer). Both use hydraulic pressure to move a piston outward. In disc brakes, the piston is located inside a caliper that houses brake pads and fits over the rotor. The friction lining on the pads makes contact with the rotor to slow the vehicle. In drum brakes, the piston moves two curved shoes lined with friction material against the inside of the brake drum.
